Couturier moving in with Briere

Watching Nhl Network now, the guys just had a segment on Couturier and said he is planning to move in with Danny Briere. Looks like he's staying up with the Flyers if it wasn't obvious already.

Edit: It was on NHL Live

So, if Roo and Briere were called Briroux, should we name a ne arrangement Courier?

They should all just buy a huge house together and turn it into a frat house. It's what Carter and Richards would've done.

Yet, they didn't. And hopefully these guys don't either, because that's a recipe for disaster the moment a losing streak happens. Timmeh would probably go through their trash until he found a beer bottle.

Oh yeah. Add Bob (23) and Gus (22).

All 11 of those players will likely be playing for the Flyers next season. Scary eh?

It sure looks like someone is doing a bang up job in the organization. The future is very bright indeed.

Shhhhhh. Our prospect pool sucks...

Also, don't forget Holmstrom, Testwuide, Kessel, Akeson, Ranford, Wellwood, etc.

Dreamcast... the most underrated console ever. Hahaha... man, so many great memories, especially of playing Crazy Taxi on it. Those memory cards were epic too... or should I say, the mini gameboys?

They should all just buy a huge house together and turn it into a frat house. It's what Carter and Richards would've done.

I know some have cited the age gap between our forwards and our defensemen as evidence of roster mis-management, but I think that glosses over a key difference between forwards and defensemen in order to arrive at a pessimistic outcome. Namely, that the typical development arc for a good forward is far different than the typical arc for a good defenseman.

It is very common for a forward to reach his prime or even his peak performance level in his early 20s, while this is a lot more rare for a defenseman. It is known (or at least generally accepted) that defensemen develop later and slower towards their peak, typically in their mid-to-late 20s. It would follow from this that most of a good forward's best years are typically captured in his 20s, while it is more typical for a defenseman's peak, prime and productive years to skew comparatively later into the 30s.

Here's a theory that could explain this: high level offensive performance is far more responsive to raw athleticism, while a defenseman's performance is far more reliant on "mental capital" -- craftiness, tricks of the trade, scouting your opponent, knowing how to "read the game" etc. That is not to say that a forward cannot get by on craftiness (although I think these would again tend to be forwards more of the defensive variety), but that there very could well be a discernable degree of difference.

Whether it is by dumb luck or shrewdness, I think there is some merit to be attributed to the age gap between the Flyers forwards and defensemen.
