I loved what I saw from Carcillo tonight, he looks the way he did in Phoenix; a solid old time hockey player. Lots of grit and toughness, roughs it up and agitates, draws penalties, and actually does end up on the scoresheet.

I'm also loving the Bickell-Bolland-Frolik line. If Bolland can play 70ish games this year, I think he's gonna score 25.

I like the Post game thread. I hate having to sift through a gamethread to find the end if I wasn't around during the game.

The Good:
Kane
Hossa
Carcillo
Bickell-Bolland-Frolik

The Bad:
Toews
Emery

The Ugly:
Powerplay
Carcillo
  • Toews was either turning the puck over or completely invisible. Looks like it'll be a typical October for the captain.
  • Outside of Brunette picking up some trash, our PP was completely anemic tonight. They don't set up and establish a cycle until there's about 20-30 seconds left and by that time it's a lost cause.
  • Carcillo - Kane - Hossa looks like a dynamite line. Carcillo creates a ton of space for Kane and Hossa to work with. I like it.
  • Emery looked like crap. Picking up the win or not, he was the beneficiary of the other team's goaltender playing worse. His third goal allowed was inexcusable. If they wanted Marty Turco to play again I'm sure they would have signed him.
  • Also the most physical game I've seen the Hawks play in quite some time. Even in the beginning of the first they were playing the body very well, which is something you almost never see from this team.

Looks we've got a lot to look forward to this season, especially once Smith and Stalberg come back to the lineup.

Just happy to see them hold a 1-goal lead through an entire third period.

5 points in three games for Kaner is fun to see, too.

Emery was terrible. Defense was questionable also. If we faced a good team tonight, we lose this game.

All four forward lines looked decent.

2nd and 3rd lines were beastly. Carcillo and Frolik were like animals tonight. Hossa and Kane studs again. Just waiting for this team to get in midseason form.

Emery was good enough to get the win tonight...the thing with him is if he gets out of position even the slightest bit on a play...it's over...he doesn't have the lateral movement to recover.

The main problem is that the post game thread really starts before the game is over, especially in a blow out. Half-way through the third, we're talking about who was good and who was bad, etc.

If you leave the thread open, even for an hour, at least people can finish their thought, complete their arguments. In my mind, breaking it at the new day is more meaningful, as we all went to sleep and slept off all the booze we drank the night before - now we can discuss the game in the light of day.

I'm still lol'ing at the fantasy ratings that had Toews 20-30 spots above Kane. Kane has more fantasy value in any format, even before he was playing center. With dual eligibility now, he's top ten.

Didn't see the three stars. Anyone know who they named?

As for Emery, he was good eough to get us the win. Re-directs are hard to get, and even that second redirect was wide of the net, and was a hell of a tip-in. Glad he got his first win out f the way early this season.

Doubt Turco would sign for league minimum. Hopefully we only see Emery in games where our offense can score more goals than Razer allows. Do not want to see him against Boston saturday for example.

Solid point.

Love what I see from the Bolland-Bickell-Frolik line. They picked up right where they left off last season. Really like how they fit together.

Not sure how long it'll last but I think Carcillo actually fits with Hossa and Kane. Seems to open space out there (obviously Hossa and Kane open up a lot on their own). As witnessed on that nice feed to Hossa, Carcillo's got enough skill to be able to make some plays and find those guys in addition to being a pain in the ass camping in front of the net. In addition with him out there you know no one's gonna screw with Kane at all after the whistle or anything. Seem like a good fit together so far. Carcillo played exactly how I expected him to and how he did in Phoenix, only smarter.

Fourth line was quiet but solid. Kruger obviously getting a little Quenneville love getting put out the last couple of the minutes of the game with Hossa and Kane.

All in all, solid game, though not perfect. PP still needs a little tuning but I think that will come. Emery was fine...not great but not horrible. He played like a backup and seemed to get a little better as the game went on. He does look a little slow and I don't feel that "trust" feeling I get when Crawford's in, but we'll see how that develops. He did OK.

If we faced a good team tonight, Crawford would be in net. Our backup's job is to win games against the crappy teams or the worse of a back to backer.

So far he has done his job and is 1-0.

Plus, how do you know he would of lost against a better team? Would that better team have had those first two deflection goals? Game would have been completely different.

If Kane can stay over 50% for the season he may move to center permanently, or at least as permanent as can be on Quenneville team.

Protest noted.

BWC - I don't think it is necessary unless the GDT had a higher post count.

That's an idea for another poll:

Nick Leddy
Ghost of Kim Johnsson

vs.

Cam Barker's buyout cap hit

No they probably would not have had those first two deflection goals. More like 5 of the 3rd goal.

My thoughts:

-Emery was solid. The 3rd goal was on him, imo. 2 others were on our defense.

-I'm not liking Keith's play very much. At this moment Seabrook is the better one between the two, although Seabs wasn't laying down hits very much

-4th line was okay. I love the Carcillo-Kane-Hossa line. Great chemistry. 1st line has potential, but Jonny wasnt quite on his game which I think made the line falter.

-Leddy looks amazing.

-Montador definitely showing that aggression now and is better than he was in preseason. I like him and O'Donnell as a pairing, I hope they stay the 3rd d-pair.

-Carcillo had a nice game.

-Only concern for me is what we're doing with Stalberg and Smith. I'm curious as to who's going to be the scratch on the team. I'm thinking maybe Olesz, I'm not overly impressed. I would hate to see Smith or Stalberg get scratched when both have better potential.

-Bolland still on his game, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay healthy!!
