I got a good chuckle after that game because of that 30 seconds where Habs played with seven players.

No, Habs managed to hit the netting behind the goal and the refs didn't stop the game even then, that last 30 secs were a true comedy of errors.

I think thats more a question of insulating Desharnais against more physical opposition. Not necessarily a bad idea, two big guys who can make space on the ice and have decent shots lined up with a smart and creative center?

I think with the talent pool we have we need to stop thinking in terms of line number as a measure of confidence and/or talent and look more towards the potential results that each line can accomplish.

I guess we'll see how much TOI each line gets.

Nope. Quite frankly we suck at effectively using the extra man when we pull the goalie, just seems that having that extra player leads to more confusion and sloppy play.

So adding 2....

Ouch. Ok guys this is Swede on Swede, and they never fight in public. Too much dignity. Everyone else, stay out of this one. You Swede guys, we love your players, and please don't kill each other.

Avs dominated the Red Wings in the 1st period and the Wings were pretty lucky to be all even at the break (Conklin was standing on his head), the two goals Avs conceded were lasers from Franzen and Zetterberg, plus an empty net goal.

Avs played better than Bruins during that game, Varlamov have one impressive save and another good one, but other than that he wasn't tested all that much, Rask was better and he had more luck since Staz and EJ both hit the post.

Game against CBJ was their worst so far and they still managed to win it, CBJ had one shot (Martinek's goal) in the 3rd period when Avs started to play up to their standard from the games against DET and BOS.

Game against OTT was a blowout, Avs players wanted to pile up goals on Anderson and Ottawa was in their own zone for the huge part of the game, shots were 38-16 in favour of Colorado.

Our best line by far is the line feauturing Landeskog, O'Reilly and Winnk, they're an agressive forchecking unit that forces a lot of giveaways, with O'Reilly leading the way as Avs best forward (by far) thus far. Avs best defensive pairing is Hejda - EJ, Hejda (our best defensman ATM) excels as an defensive defensman that can move the puck rather well for someone as big as he is, while EJ plays a more offensive role.

In general Avs defense allowed few clear cut scoring chances thus far.

I hope I provided some insight for you guys regarding this Avs team.

PS

A note to OP, replace Mueller in your lineups with Lindstrom.
Thanks for the report! Colorado is my 2nd team, but I'm not able to watch them that often.

For Montreal, if you have someone to watch closely it has to be Eller. It will be only his second game of the year (because of an injury he had against the B's in the playoffs). Kid got a lot of talent. He actually reminds me of Peter Forsberg. Obviously he is really really far from having the incredible talent Peter had, but he has a comparable skillset; very good puck protection, nice vision, nice skills with the puck and can sometime throw big hits.

You will need Cole, Patches, Moen, etc. to really step up or it could be a long night for your smaller forwards.

6'4"/237 - 6'4"/232
6'3"/230 - 6'2"/207
6'1"/207 - 6'5"/234

On the other hand, Price is a beast and I don't have much faith in getting pucks past him.

Can't see you guys coming out flat again.

Prediction: 4-3 Habs.

That's just plain good coaching. They always say outnumber your opponents...

Montreal was allowed that, though. Earlier in that season they gave another team a powerplay because someone forgot to go on the ice....

We're such a fast team that on a snapshot you can see a player in 2 places at the time. We actually were only 5.

Was that when Laraque forgot to jump on the ice and the opposing team scored the game winner? I don't remember which team exactly though. :S

Nice GDT. I like the lineup font. Hard to believe Lander not playing with Duchene and that Johnson and Hejda are their 2nd pairing

This is probably the toughest opponent right now. Varly looks good and the Avs as a whole look better than last year. Let's 60 minutes of our system and win this damn thing.

Thanks. How come Landeskog isn't playing with Duchene? Is he still adjusting or is it the rookie treatment in Colorado?

I think it'll be a quick back and forth game with both goalies playing well and making big saves. Probably end up 2-1 for whoever wins. Whichever team gets outshot will win this one.

Might have been. I just remember the commentators loling at the habs forgetting to put a player on.

Cole has 8 hits in 3 games to lead the team. Well, tied. He's at least doing something.

Darche, Desharnais and Gill have 0 hits.

Palushaj had 4.

Diaz has 6 blocked shots. Second to Gorges' 12 and tied with Gill.

Desharnais sucks at faceoffs.

Subban has 6 giveaways to 1 take away.

Gomez has 8 shots. He had 157 in 80 games last year, so he's on pace to do better.

So are the back ups going to start for obvious reasons, or are both teams going for blood?

Well I guess they didn't want to put the pressure on him to have a big offensive impact right away, and let him get adjusted slowly to the pro game. But he's had incredible chemistry with Ryan O'reilly and Dan Winnik so now they don't want to break up that third line, they've been our best line by far

We always sucked in season openers, be it home or away. Hope the Habs will put their act together or the decision to tank will soon be made.
