Rangers send Zuccarello to Connecticut(AHL). Not getting enough ice time with Rangers. "obviously I'm disappointed."

And yet Christensen stays? Does he have naked photos of Torts or something?

Has been invisible thus far. Christensen is staying because the team isn't worried about playing him on the 4th line. Zuccarello getting 4th line minutes hurts his development, Christensen is just a filler.

Yeah, we're going back to a 3 line team with 5 minutes of this line to let the other lines rest.

He's been invisible, and he is much better served logging minutes in CT than getting less than 8 with the big club.

Pre-season on Olympic sheets inflated perception of his advancement.

This is baffling. I have no clue what Torts sees in Christensen, he hasn't showed anything in years.

Zuccarello has a great camp and is then awarded with like 5 minutes a game. I have no clue how he's supposed to do anything then.

Torts hates his enforcers. Rupp is going the way of Boogaard (bless his soul)

Kris Newbury

AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Rangers will recall Kris Newbury from Connecticut (AHL) to fill roster spot with Mats Zuccarello being sent to Whale.

Yeah Christiensen stays up. When you have 3 assjams on the 4th line does it really matter which one plays?

Rupp isn't an enforcer in any sense, he's just a big guy that happens to fight somewhat regularly. He's a 4th line utilitarian.

Can't say I'm surprised at all. He was sent down towards the end of last season, was recalled due to Cally's injury, and then injured himself in the AHL playoffs. He'll get more playing time in the AHL which will help him further acclimate to the smaller ice. I'm no fan of EC, but sending down MZA will help his development. There's no such hope for EC... I think he'll be off this team altogether soon enough.

MZA's preseason was misleading. He played well on the big ice which should be a shock to no one considering he was the SEL MVP a few seasons ago. During the games in the states, he was inconsistent.. a few good shifts here and there.

Maybe Zucc could get more ice time if the team didn't spend half the game killing penalties...

What do you expect him to do playing 7 minutes a night with Rupp?

Zucc has been handled terrible.

For the money we're paying him, I wish Torts UTILIZED him a little bit more.

Didn't say anything about my expectations, but if he's going to earn the ice-time, he's got to show something to do so. Zuccarello had a solid preseason, but he did most of his damage on European sized ice. Tortorella wants him to get more top-6 time, and he doesn't really help the team given the current roster.

Newbury is a much better fit for the bottom-6, IMO.

He hasn't really done all that much to earn more ice time, though. Some players distinguish themselves regardless of who his linemates are, and I don't think Zuke has done that. And he did get to play with Stepan during the first game...

Well those 5 minutes are Tort's fault, not Slats.

The team benefits more in the long run by having Zucc play 18+ minutes in the minors, and having a prototypical grinder on the 4th line. Win-win.

The 4th line is for guys who can't score but can do other things well like check and fight and pester for several minutes in a game. A pure scorer who stands 5'3" inches tall and weighs 90 pounds doesn't fit that role.

Yea but Zuccarello got 15 minutes a night in the preseason. And he was able to do stuff.

Hard on a player when he knows he is only gettting 2 sixty second shifts a period.

30 seconds?

He took that boarding penalty on the first shift and was demoted right after.
