Not a surprising move. Brought this up in the Zuccarello thread from the summer. His cap hit is too much for a 4th line RWer. Torts likes three lines and Zucca will always be the odd player out on the right side.

Rangers major problem right now is on the blue line. Missing both Staal and Sauer is too much. Woywitka and Eminger are both journeymen bottom pairing types. Erixon's got a bit of deer in the headlights and MDZ though so far not that bad is always an adventure waiting to happen.

MZA was not getting enough ice time. Stuck on a line with EC and Rupp--that's an odd combination. I don't know if there are other issues Torts has with him but I suspect there is. Newbury is more of a 4th line gritty type and if EC sticks with them--EC should go to the wing because Newbury's better on face-offs.

Ugh, zuccarello needs to get traded to a team who understands him and doesnt play dump and chase neanderthal hockey like rangers do.

****ing joke that he's supposedly not good enough for this team. Playing 3rd and 4th line with goons isn't exactly perfect for him either.

If he cant get traded he should go to KHL or SEL again. Will probably make more money too.

But hopefully he'll get to play for another NHL team first, any other team will probably suit him better than Rangers.

I am sure it's Torts decision to send Zuc down. I feel for him. I guess it's better if they trade him ASAP even for a prospect. He could be very useful player (great talent), if he is handled properly.

Newbury + Hagelin

Fine with me.

Stepan. Richards. Gaborik
Dubinsky. Anisimov. Callahan
Fedotenko. Boyle. Prust
Rupp. Newbury. Hagelin

I like the 4th line there a lot, energy line with some speed with Hagelin. They just have to get Hagelin some minutes on the PK, he needs more than 5 minutes a game.

I may flip Dubinsky and Fedotenko if the 2nd line doesn't get something going soon because this team will not go far being a one line army. Last season they got scoring from pretty much everywhere except the first line until Prospal came back to play with Gabby.

Maybe a strange question. But what system is that? I really don't see what formation Tortorella has been trying to get his team to play this far. It's early though.

But Hagelin is in Hartford. I think your top 3 lines is going to be what we see in the short term, and what does that leave us with? A mismash of leftover parts with no identity? How does one utilize a 4th line that consists of Rupp, Newbury, Christensen, and Wolski? Is it going to generate offense and get something out of Wolski? Is it going to be a grind it out line that gets something out of Rupp? To me, it looks like a jumble of leftover parts with no identity.

I take it this can't be good news regarding Sauer.

Also, didn't Bell have a terrible game last night in Hartford?

On the bright side, I thought Woywitka was serviceable last night. At least Bell should only be in the 7th spot short term. However, if we suffer another injury and Bell is in our starting 6 . . .

I will assume this is for insurance reasons. Just in case another dman gets injured and Sauer isn't ready. Don't wanna be stuck with 5 healthy defenseman in western Canada.

You know whom we should play? Dale Weise. Oh wait... (Saw him two games in Vancouver and he was great as a bottom line player.)

I would not mind calling up Hagelin some time this winter if he gets penalty kill time. But not before the winter. I want him to get his feet wet playing pro hockey before he jumps into the NHL. He should get at least half a season of first line play in Hartford, both to get used to playing against adults and to get top minutes to improve himself.

Right now it seems like Newbury is our guy for the 4th line.

As for MZA, seems like we should trade him. The kid should have gone to a team with fewer forwards which would allow him a chance to get more ice. Look at what PAP did when he joined the Isles. You can say PAP sucks, but right now I would rather be him than MZA.

From our point of view, at least we can probably get a pick for him. If we got #4 and #7, we should deal MZA. But I suspect we may regret not using him correctly.

Why is Tortorella getting killed over the handling of Zuccarello?

The cold, hard truth is that MZA is just not very good.

This makes me very sad. Weise would indeed look good with Rupp and Newbury. A tough grind it out fourth line.

Instead we get Erik Christensen . . .

who plays hockey with less intensity than actress Erika Christensen.

i don't think it means much about sauer other than he's day to day and a question mark which we already know...you can't go on a long west coast trip with only 6 healthy dmen

That answer is easy...

Wojtek Wolski.

Brain dead, lazy, waste of cap space and roster space.

I wouldn't say "not very good" - I would say "not good enough at this level to overcome the major handicap that is his stature."

God help us if another d-man goes down. Imagine having Bell, Eminger, Woywitka, and MDZ in our top 6? We lose before the game even starts.
