Forward lines

We certainly haven't been playing poorly, but I would make some changes.

My primary reason for change is to free up JVR and get the most out of him. He's at his best when he has the puck on his stick a lot and is really using that size and speed to dominate.

Giroux and Jagr also like to carry the puck a lot. It doesn't work to the best of everyone's abilities to play them together.

Keep Giroux and Jagr together and give them either Hartnell/Simmonds for dirty work and the front of the net. Or giving them Matt Read gives them speed off the wing and a food shooter to finish plays.

Play JVR with either Briere or Couturier.

I would go

Simmonds - Giroux - Jagr
JVR - Briere - Voracek
Hartnell - Couturier - Read

Or

Read - Giroux - Jagr
Simmonds - Briere - Voracek
Hartnell - Couturier - JVR

I prefer JVR on his off wing. He cuts more to the middle of the ice, instead of going wide all the time.

Voracek - Giroux - Jagr
JVR - Schenn - Briere
Hartnell - Couturier - Simmonds
Read - Talbot - Rinaldo
Nodl

Briere hasn't exactly been lighting it up, and you lose most of Couturier's effectiveness if you move him from the middle. So Briere goes back to wing and we bring up Schenn

As nice as that lineup looks, I think Roo Jagr may work best with a net presence like hartnell.

Also, i dont want to see Read on the 4th line, he is way to talented to be there. He has been by far the most pleasant surprise this season.

We have the problem of having 10 forwards for 9 places. I wonder if Holmgren is trying to package a deal with one of them and Walker.

Voracek also likes to really have the puck on his stick.

Voracek, JVR, Giroux and Jagr all like to have the puck a lot. Best not to have 3 of them on the same line.

I'm not advocating moving Briere to the wing yet, but if that does happen, he would actually be our best fit with Giroux/Jagr as he's our best finisher.

Briere has been put at wing before, but he always plays his best at center. He needs an ace defensive forward with him.

Only Pronger and Giroux (5 each) have more points than him (3)

he has 3 points but he has been far from dominant. it may just take a few games i guess. id really like to see schenn stay at center and briere moved to the wing for a few games.

When schenn comes up, i think our lines change.

I'd like:
1st line: Hartnell/schenn-Giroux-Jagr
2nd/3rd: Hartnell/Schenn-Briere- Read
2nd/3rd: Simmonds- Couturier-JvR (jvr on the right is a beautiful thing!)
4th: Nodl- Talbot- rinaldo

(Id rather have Hartnell with briere, since they look lost w/o eachother...also, i feel like read plays similar to leino)

Carle-pronger
Kimmo-mesz
Coburn- lilly
(I want coby on the 3rd so that he is on his own...like mesz was last year. Since i could see us moving carle this year, i really want coburn to take the next step.

Bryz
Bob

Hartnell - Briere - Jagr (they all play well when they slow the game down and cycle)
Jvr - Giroux - Voracek (JVR gets 2 playmakers)
Read - Schenn - Simmonds (Lots of speed and two way players)
Talbot - Coots - Nodl (4th line that won't hurt the team)

I wouldn't mind:

Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
Simmonds-Giroux-Jagr
JVR-Couturier-Read
Talbot-Schenn-Nodl
Rinaldo

We can see how Schenn does and move him up to 3rd line center if he outperforms Couturier.

This is the best line up I've seen yet.

Rinaldo

Carle-Pronger
Timonen-Coburn
Meszaros-Lilja
Bartulis

Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky

Couturier has played LW in the CHL. I don't know his stats at that position vs at Center so don't ask but why not try. Read has played Center him with Talbot and Nodl on the 4th Line make for a great Checking line with the ability to score.

We all want Shelley in the AHL and the last game is a perfect example. Did Westgarth try to run at and hurt any of the Flyers top players because of the Doughty hit? No. You don't need them on your team.

We all want Schenn up, but I do not think Homer will waive Shelley and I do not think Couturier will be returned to juniors given his play.

I think Voracek and Read could be more effective if they drove to the net more and did not try to play too much on the perimeter. Having said that, Read, Couturier and Hartnell did create chances Saturday.

JVR isn't playing as aggressive as he did in the playoffs. I would not mind seeing him with Briere.

Voracek Giroux Jagr
JVR Briere Simmonds

Simmonds Giroux Jagr
Hartnell/read Schenn Briere
Voracek Couturier JVR
Rinaldo/hartnell/read talbot nodl.

Hell we can trade hartnell and roll read or Nodl, remember last year Briere and leino worked well with nodl because of the simplicity of his game

For practice today, they seemed to change the lines up alittle. According to TimmyP and Dave Issac the lines were.

JVR-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Simmonds
Voracek-Couturier-Read

EDIT: Seemed to be only for a few shifts. They changed them back.

If Schenn gets called up I would make the forwards:

Hartnell/Giroux/Jagr
JVR/Briere/Simmonds
Vorachek/Couturier/Read
Nodl/Schenn/Talbot
Rinaldo

Read-Giroux-Jagr
JVR-Schenn-Simmonds
Voracek-Couturier-Briere
Hartnell-Talbot-Nodl

or

Read-Giroux-Jagr
JVR-Schenn-Voracek
Hartnell-Couturier-Briere
Simmonds-Talbot-Nodl

I think Schenn with JVR would be an interesting experiment.

Alright that Caps game was hideous. Guys weren't clicking, and passes were being thrown all over the ice. Here are my line proposals, mainly based off Briere and JvR needing a new look:

Voracek-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Simmonds
Couturier-Schenn-JvR
Read-Talbot-Nodl

or

Briere-Giroux-Jagr
JvR-Schenn-Voracek
Hartnell-Couturier-Simmonds
Read-Talbot-Nodl

I like putting JVR somewhere else and slopping Hartnell and Briere back together. JVR has seemed like a non-factor on that line much of the time, and Hartnell and Briere have just been non-factors. We need all three of those to begin producing soon, we can't be relying only on Giroux and the rookies.
