Yeah, Ballard will still fetch a good return. Certainly won't be had for Zucc/Wolski. Also signed for four more years and we're not exactly loaded with cap space right now. Good d-man though and Sather does well with trades. I'd at least look into it as Ballard is definitely worthwhile. Just probably not at what we'd pay.

With that cap hit? No way. This is a straight salary dump. Personally, I wouldn't touch that contract with a ten foot pole but Zucc and/or Wolski gets it done easily. He's not worth the money owed to him.
Ballard, the guy who was scratched multiple times during the playoffs and has earned nothing but the complete ire of 'Couver fans? Plus that contract? HUGE pass from me.
Ballard at least used to be really good, and I think Vignault misused him and didn't really give him much of a chance. If he could be had for cheap it's worth thinking about, but ultimately the team really isn't in a position to be taking on that much salary
if Staal and Sauer were healthy this would not be a big deal. If they can hang on till November then they should be fine on D assumiung Sauer is a day to day thing and Staal is back end of the month(crosses fingers)
I would bring in a vet for the 3rd pairing with DZ regardless but it would have to be a one yr risk move on a Sarich, Oduya , Kuba type
Zuccarello is the trade bait. Ottawa would likely move Kuba and a descent pick for MZA

Youre only saving $1.2M when you consider Wolski's cap hit, who is an absolute dud.
I would gladly take that extra hit for one year of a veteran defenseman who can handle 20+ minutes per game.
Sather has an awfully shoddy track record of trading solid defenseman for high risk/high reward offensive players with dubious work ethic issues. If Wolski came a bit cheaper, this would be less of an issue.
I might be wrong on this but wasn't Ballard the D-Man on the Canucks last year during the cup final that was terrible ? Granted there were a few Canucks you could say that about but I seem to remember him being a healthy scratch towards the end of the series due to his brutal play.
Oh yeah and his hit is 4.2 for the next 4. Pass. Like someone said earlier, if Staal and Sauer are healthy this trade isn't discussed. They should both be back soon, let's just maintain.
