I think Downie is very valuable to this team and brings some much needed intangibles that other players on the Lightning don't. He goes 100% every shift and I think he gave us a boost tonight.
I agree. Like Marty he is one of the guys on the team where you never have to worry about him playing hard each night. The best we looked all night before we got our act together in the 3rd period was after the fight. He's a valuable piece to our team.
I don't expect MAB to keep going a ppg, but if he keeps putting up the points here and there and keeps playing the way he has defensively I'll be very happy. He's stepped up his game to start the season.
I love that we have a goal or a point by almost everybody, but the top guns need to pick it up a little more. Stammer missed the net a lot last night, and the pp which was one of our strengths last year has not been good so far. On a night where we were missing Shannon and Purcell, and Downie for some time, we need the scorers to do their thing.

Goalie Mathieu Garon, making his second start for the Lightning, was sharp, making 36 saves. But he lamented Goc's shootout goal, which went between his legs after he tried to poke check the puck away from the center.
"I usually don't do that," Garon said. "I don't know why I reacted that way. (Goc) had his head down a little bit. I thought maybe I'd surprise him, but it wasn't the right thing to do."
