Web Series FakeHenrikZetterberg

Hi Red Wings fans,

I was at the NYC comic con this weekend and some guy was walking around in full Red Wings uniform, including skates, and he had a Zetterberg jersey. So being a hockey fan I had to go talk to him and this other guy with him and they told me they were making a web show called Fake Henrik Zetterberg and it was this guy who went around to work, etc. dressed in full hockey uniform all the time. I haven't look at it so I have no idea if it is funny but thought you guys might be interested.

On the positive side, this is great exposure for hockey to the web market. It's also hilarious as hell.

On the negative side, if it gets too popular or starts getting income generated from it (think "The Guild" for example) then I'm sure Bettman & Co. will step in to stop it for not having a licensing agreement to use NHL property (in this case player names) for a comercial enterprise. Considering the money video game makers have to pay to pro leagues for the rights to use the names in the games, I'm sure this falls under the same umbrella. Just try to go view the original video on YouTube and see for yourself how lenient the establishment is: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-165327

yeah I was wondering that myself but I wasn't going to say anything. It does look like it could be funny but I haven't had a chance to dig in. Zetterberg is one of my favorite players so I will watch it just for the fun of it.

If they really wanted to fight it, they might be able to argue that it's a parody/satire, and have a fair use right to it. I doubt they'd want to fight it that hard, considering the money likely involved, but I think an argument could be made. If the NHL was smart, they'd find a way to just let these people make their series, though. It'll end up being better marketing than the majority of things the league comes up with.

You would think a Henrik Zetterberg impersonator would splurge for an actual Wings jersey.

I give him a credit for taking a shower with full equipment on. That is not the easiest thing to do.

If I remember correctly, that guy isn't a Wings fan. It's his buddy that is a Wings fan and realized he looked like Zetterberg. I don't think they are making much money if any, they were asking for donations to cover episodes running about $500 a piece. Leave it to the Bettman and the NHL to try and block grassroots marketing.

I think it adds to the "fake" part that he has a fake jersey.

It's pretty humorous, overall. I hope they continue doing it.

It's gotta be a costuming decision, I highly doubt that jersey could be significantly cheaper than one of the many far more accurate knock offs available online.
