That woman probably has trouble with french so she made her name sound english.
In borowiecki's case, it doesn't make sense to say bor-vee-ette-ski unless it was actually it. It's not like he has trouble pronouncing borow-weeky.
Besides, you can pronounce your own last name however you want, and you're right because it's your name.
