Hard to be pumped up for a game when you were couped up on a bus for 4+ hours and arrived at the arena with no time to go through your normal pre game routine.

I was there. Dainton can't be blamed. He was hung out to dry on a couple 2 on 1's and one of the goals was a nice redirect. Sloppy in the first and second. I credit them getting to the arena at 6:30. Talked to Dainton before the game. He said sitting in the traffic was "Brutal" and also to the Manchester opener. The typical 'weather the storm' logic applies. Third period was solid. Kubalik got injured on a blocked shot and didn't play at all in the third. Mair filled in on the first line. Some sustained offense. D settled in. As the game went on they got better. I loved what I saw in the third.

I'll hopefully be making the trip to Albany tomorrow too.

Last night's game story. Good quote from Riley in the last paragraph before the notes.

much better 6-3 win last night for the falcons. Way to respond to friday nights loss. The whole team looked much better and they seemed to gel. Defense still was not very good but they were better. Bolmqvist was a scratch and delisle played instead. Both are struggling so far. York looked great i think he is our number 1.

Is John Moore playing? He's not on the Falcons statsheet for either game, not listed as a scratch either...

Falcons opening weekend

The Falcons opened the regular season on the road this weekend with 2 games.

Game one was in Manchester, NH on Friday. It was a horrible disaster. Losing 5-2. The defense was brutal, very brutal. Leaving Paul Dainton out to dry with multiple breakaways. Enough with that.

Game 2 was Saturday night in Albany, NY. A quick 2 hour drive and I was there to cheer on the guys.

The Falcons won 6-3 behind a solid performance by goaltender Allen York.

Albany opened the scoring on some lackluster play by John Moore. He was standing on the side boards while Brent Regner covered 2 Devils.

Aaron Bogosian opened the scoring for the Falcons with a slaphot that beat Jeff Frazee of the Devils. Assist to Ryan Garlock.

Nick Holden scored the Falcons 2nd goal on the PP. Assists to Martin St. Pierre & Rooster, Alex Giroux. Nice puck movement on the play to set up Holden's goal.

Brent Regner took a wrister that beat Jeff Frazee to put the Falcons up 3-1 in the 1st period. Assists to Mike Thomas & Ryan Garlock.

Nick Drazenovic continued the Falcons scoring just 1:27 into the 2nd. He was in the crease and shoveled the puck passed Jeff Frazee. Assists to Dane Byers & Adam Mair.

Cody Bass put the Falcons up 5-2 on the PP. Again Frazee was down after making a save and Bass put it past him. Assists to Brent Regner & Nick Drazenovic.

Dane Byers closed the scoring for the game. Knocking in Nick Drazenovic's rebound. Assists to Drazenovic & Cody Bass.

A few notes...

Cody Goloubef was improved from last season. He showed better positioning. Also made several good plays on the PP to keep pucks in when he was left alone at the blueline. Two of which led to Holden's goal.

Dane Byers had a great play to end the 1st period, making a clear on the PK. Helped break the Devils flow on the PP.

Alex Giroux was not very visible for most of the game.

Byers - Drazenovic - Bass were easily the best line. Energy and hustle all game.

Allen York's recovery from saves to move post to post was slow, needs to work on his movement, unless it was an off night.

Allen York had 27 saves. He also had a scary moment when falling behind the net while the Falcons were on a 5 on 3 PP.

The Falcons are back at it this weekend with 1 away game Friday @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 2 home games. The opener Saturday v.s. Providence & Sunday v.s. Manchester.

If John makes some nice plays, I will say nice things. Seriously though, he almsot seems like he doesn't care at times. JMO of course, not the JMoore of the 1st half of last season, hope he can get it together.

Please how Moore, Holden, Regner or Goloubef use his body (hits, cleaning the place in the front of the net and similar)? Thanks.

Yes, he will. Ryan Russell will also be in the lineup.

And to answer the question about the defense clearing the slot. Holden was the best of the group in front of the net. Overall they need to really work on moving guys out of the way of York and Dainton. Defense is the weakness now, I am hoping it will improve since mostr of the guys are not rookies. Some look to have progressed this summer, some regressed. I figure give the defense a few games to get the pairings really sorted out and then we will see more.

York was barreled into by Thompson of the Pens and was injured on the play. Hearing upper body injury. No update as of yet. We do not have a back-up if he is going to miss any significant time. And I am not sold on Dainton as the starter.

Watched it online. Appeared to be a collarbone or shoulder injury. He did skate off on his own but clearly was favoring his left side.

I ended up sitting next to a scout from Winnipeg. He heard it was a shoulder injury.

Anyways, As of tonight's game. We didn't deserve to lose 4-1.

Baby Bruins goalie definitely stole a couple goals. One noticably from Byers and I think one from Atkinson.

A turnover at the Blueline for a Hamill breakaway, Another Hamill empty net goal and the Providence goalie won them the game.

Thought it was a good effort, Just bad luck and good tendy.

He said he was feeling a lot better when I talked to him last night. Thinks it is a muscle injury, not serious. Was not limping.

Kubalik is still limping, he was expected back this past weekend. Best to keep him out until he is healthy and not injure himself further.

I will have a write up tomorrow or Wed. depending on my schedule. Overall good weekend though, bright spots in both games and a few mistakes caught the guys Sat. night.
