How bad was Nick Boynton

Hey guys, Devils fan here. I was talking with a guy I work with who is a huge Blackhawks fan and we were talking about some of their best and worst players. He said that Boynton might be one of (said about top 10) the worst Hawks defenseman ever. Was he really that awful for you guys? I know he wasn't good at all but didn't think he was that bad. Any comments are welcome, just curious

Then he's been a fan for all of three years. Quint, Cullimore, Aucoin... we've had some truly crap defenseman.

Nick Boynton was Pronger compared to Deron Quint.

Add Kevin Dean to your list ,, Brutal to watch him his final year in NHL with Hawks

Greg Smith and Bryan McCabe are my picks as the worst D-men I seen as a CBH.

Karpovtsev (RIP), Mironov, Quint, and Cullimore are just a few guys I can think of worse than Boynton.

Boynton was a below average #7 guy so you can't really expect much out of him as he was making league minimum.

The players I listed above were brought in to be top 4 guys who played like AHLers but were paid like All Stars.

Mironov doesn't belong in this group. Bobo was a wasn't a bad defenseman, just a really frustrating one - super-talented but lazy, inconsistent, and injury-prone. A disappointment for sure, but he played at a much higher level (when he wasn't injured) than the others mentioned. It's a shame, he could have been great if had the desire or heart needed to play in the NHL.

Boyton was good enough to get into the Cup Finals series though.

We have had a lot of really bad defensemen. Aucoin was the guy I always hated the most. Boynton was bad, but not that bad.

Would get walked around all game long... complete pylon. But he wasn't that terrible with the puck and was always willing to get pummeled to stick up for teammates...

Boynton had his good and bad nights. He was solid some games, a pylon others. At his best, he's like SOD except not nearly as consistent.

Boynton would have been a top three defenseman on the 02-03 Blackhawks.
