The Avs are doing quite well to start the season. Look very determined.

At worst, they'll be a 10/11 team. Could see them squeaking into the playoffs.

I'm not sure if we could be friends anymore. The Avalanche have been great this year and they've been my second favorite team for the last two years.

How dare you!

I will laugh at everyone when they win the cup this year.

If Washington gets Yakupov, it won't be because of Colorado. The Avs are on fire and may finally have everything together. If they can make a move for a veteran defenseman, they'll find themselves in a really good position.

Yakupov has 25 points in 10 games. I know it's only 10 games, but if he plays 60 games at this pace, that's 150 points in his draft year in the OHL. Those are great numbers. Kane put up 145 points in his draft year in London. Tavares put up 72 goals and 134 points as a 16 year old. Stamkos put up 58 goals 105 points. I'm not sure which player had the best supporting casts (London is known to almost always have great players, and Tavares had "The Amazing" Michael "The Kid" Del Zotto feeding him everywhere he went ), but if he finishes anywhere near 150 he will be in great company. I'd give up a lot to gamble on Yakupov. Not a fan of "Fail for Nail", though.

"Bail for Nail" sound any better.

"Suckopov for Yakupov?"

Not the Around The NHL Thread, but since the Avs are on topic here, I'll say they look great so far. I got to see them in Boston last week, and they are a very fast team. Duchene is great. Hejduk still has it. Varlamov has been good and Giguere just got a win a minute ago. I wasn't a fan of getting Johnson for Stewart and Shattenkirk, nor Varlamov for their pick, but they are surprising me so far.

I'd trade Thomas, another prospect, our 2nd (this year) and our 1st in 2013 to move up to top 5 to grab Galchenyuk

For what it's worth, Colorado just won, and is in 1st place in the Western Conference if I have my facts straight.

That won't do it. Not unless that other prospect is Kreider.

I do McIlrath, Thomas, Wolski, 2012 3rd, 2013 1st.

It's a lot to give up, but for a Top 5 pick, it isn't.

Gordie said that this past year, if we wanted to move up into the top 5, we'd have to trade Lundqvist. This is a good draft. So basically unless we finish poorly, we aren't getting up in there. Not without trading a very significant player and prospect.

Yeah, we'd definitely have to add in Kreider, and probably a good roster player not named Wolski. When was the last time a playoff team traded into the top 5? I can't think of any right now.

Lundqvist alone would have worked last season.

This would be more of a deadline deal. Give the team you're trading with some false hope. A team like Calgary would need more players than one big player.

Teams that are going to finish low don't trade their lottery picks for roster players. Other way around. Come on, be realistic here.

We might be a Top 10 team if we can't get our act together. Unless the team learns to play the game as a team, the top line and Lundqvist will be doing a lot of work.
