Iwould've tried to get Tugnutt over Shields. More success, more experience, better goalie.

After last nite's game against Pittsburgh, Shields ripped up his contract and said "No amount of money is worth this!"

well he played last night and one can argue it WAS worse. left juicy rebounds out front all night and had crappy lateral movement. Was beat by quick passes to the weak side....target practice at empty nets for the Pens.

tugnutt may be next.

Tugnutt does a have superb rebound control. He's also quick across the crease.

Or at least he WAS.

Nope not yet.

He is working with CBC's HNIC announcing Ottawa games but he's not retired.

Steve Shields didn't play during the lockout, wasn't in camp with the Thrashers, and faced a total of 42 shots in the AHL before starting last night's game. Of course he was going to be brutal. Ron Tugnutt has had an even longer layoff from playing, he'd be brutal too.

Yes, he was in camp with the Ducks, so he got up to some semblance of game shape prior to signing with the Wolves, but it wasn't the Thrashers so he's also adjusting to a new team. Ron Tugnutt, on the other hand, doesn't have that in his favor, so there's even less of a reason to sign him, or to think he'd be effective.

Yes that's true, I caught the Atlanta game on Centre Ice last night and watched Shields play. He really needs to work on that rebound control. That seemed to be his major problem last night. Shields has also struggled with rebounds, which may be why he's never really held a starting job in the NHL. Tugnutt is not one who struggles with rebounds, but often plays streaky, go on a really hot bunch of games than have a bad streak, which is one of his weaknesses. Only time will tell if Shields improves over the next couple games. In that respect, you're right that it really isn't fair to shoot down the guy after only one start after such a layoff. I know I'd be battling for Tugnutt's strong points if he had a game like that too.

Of course, everbody forgets Shields is a band-aid solution. Lehtonen and Dunham will be back.
