I knew McD was gonna be a star defensively. I'm shocked by how quickly his offense has improved.

Staal comparisons... psssht... there's a LEETCH comparison in here!

Seriously, he's looked good so far. Let's hope A) his quality of play continues and B) he doesn't burn out from the ice time.

And I'll hold off on the full confidence in him until mid-November.

Personally I liked McD & Sauer together & of course Staal & Girardi were $.

McD & Sauer together really seemed fluid last year IMO.

Needs to add a little Scott Stevens and Bobby Orr to his game.

I'm really enjoying reading the McD comments on the Habs board way too much right now.

Ryan McDonagh is playing with SO MUCH confidence. It's kind of scary. And hopefully extremely contagious.

Pretty sure I called him having more offensive upside than people were giving him credit for.

Good game for McD.

He went up the ice with the puck alot last night. Best thing is,... he's not only got the speed to go forward, but he can also fly to get back in position. Amazing what confidence can do. He has been a confident man going into the season. Ofcourse we are a bit thin without Staal,... but you can't say he is missed on that first pairing.

The kid was hugely impressive last night. One play that might be getting lost in all of this that really opened my eyes was the forecheck he pushed on one of the 2nd period pks. He just flew by the Nuck defender and nearly created a scoring chance.

There were a couple of defensive lapses, and I was a bit puzzled by his seeming lack of urgency right before he took his penalty, but I'll be damned if he didn't completely make up for that and then some. GREAT game from McD. I'm lovin' it.

He just continues to get better and better as his confidence increases. Eating huge minutes in important situations, laying the body, and rushing and dishing the puck like a veteran. It's just plain awesome to see.

With Girardi and McD playing so well, it'll be interesting to see how time is distributed with Staal returns.

Another young player taking a big step forward. Best skater on the ice last night. Looks like his confidence is growing by leaps and bounds.

Believe me, that's one play that no NYR fan missed. But to think that was just a sign of things to come,.. well, I didn't see it in my crystal ball.

Maloney was saying that Montreal didn't think he would develop an offensive game. Or they thought he would but just gave up.

So far, looks like zero signs of a sophomore slump.

Isn't that hard to do when you only played 40 gms?

And, Sauer as well. You have four quality D-men who can eat up a lot of minutes effectively.

With that said we really need to look into dealing some of our defensive depth because we are pretty much set for a LONG time with these guys we have now.
First time poster, very long time (as in ridicilous long time - I was a reader when this forum was started in the late 90s and before it was called something else and was run by some Canadian brothers I think) reader.

I think the next step is to start mananing our depth better like Detroid Red Wings does. Not necessarily forcing the deal for another superstar, just getting the right bits and pieces is more important. Part of our weakness is having weak spare parts Bell, Wojitika, Wolski and Christensen do not get the job done.

Anyway, secondly, n my view, we might have good enough talent but I also saw that during the first game against L.A. our coach got schooled and out-played in terms of strategy and tactics by the coach of the Kings, Murray. We need an assistant coach who understands hockey in a strategic sense, how to build plays and create the flow of the game in a disciplined and structured manner.

Your thoughts?
