Teams calling about Brassard/Vermette. Tampa looking for top 4 dman

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...eider-on-block

Quote:
Teams have asked the Blue Jackets about Derick Brassard or Antoine Vermette, but with Carter out, how can the Jackets afford to lose another top-six forward at this point unless they receive a very good one in return?

We suspect there will be moves in Columbus at some point if the club doesn't start winning (0-4-1 heading into Tuesday's games), but the feeling right now is it's a little early to be pushing the panic trade button.

But there could possibly be a minor move given all the injuries in goal. Junior prospect Mathieu Corbeil was recalled Tuesday to back up Steve Mason on an emergency basis, but he's allowed to dress for only one NHL game. Backup Mark Dekanich is still 2-3 weeks away from returning from his injury. No. 3 man Curtis Sanford is out 3-4 weeks. No. 4 goalie Allen York is also banged up, but the Jackets hope he is OK to back up Mason in their next game (Friday at Detroit). If York can't go, the Jackets will need to make a minor move to acquire a goalie.
Quote:
The Lightning have given up 24 goals in six games. Some of that is goalie Dwayne Roloson not playing well, some of it is also poor defensive play in front of him.

So, it's no surprise the Bolts would like to upgrade on defense if and when a trade comes that makes sense. The problem is, top-four blueliners don't grow on trees. Also, what exactly would the Bolts trade in return?

The Lightning are doing their homework within the marketplace, but that doesn't necessarily mean they can get something done anytime soon, if at all, given the limited supply of top-four defensemen available.

In the meantime, Lightning GM Steve Yzerman told ESPN.com on Tuesday that injured blueliner Mattias Ohlund could be out longer than originally expected. He may be at least six weeks away from recovering after having both of his knees scoped last week. When healthy, he's a player who makes a difference in Tampa Bay's lineup.

No, but seriously. Perhaps the Leafs could be of service.

What the Jackets would want for Vermette, the Sabres won't want to give up, but I may be interested in a deal involving Brassard. He could just need a fresh start.

Gomez
Kristo

Brassard, or Vermette
Huselius?

Huselius seems to be hurt. Though, it's not like he sucks...

Either one, the cap hit is the same. The next year Gomez's actual salary goes down to 5.5 mill

Depending on Huselius' injury, Kostitsyn could be included. So, you'd get another player to play now. An added scoring touch, some physicality. Kristo, he wants to finish off his college career. Might be AHL next year, but he's closer to NHL ready than most of the habs other prospects. Also has top 6 forward potential.

Probably would be Vermette coming back. No problem with that.

More than likely, what the CBJ want for Brassard would be the same thing they would want for Vermette, perhaps a defenseman or a goaltender. No chance of both being moved, it will be one or neither.

Ponikarovsky - Staal - Jokinen
Skinner - Brassard - LaRose
Tlusty - Sutter - Dwyer

Nash - Vermette - Umberger
Prospal - Carter - Ruutu
Giroux - Pahlsson - Mayorov

I'm surprised Stevie Y didn't see this coming with that group. He should've gone out and grabbed a top reliable dman in the summer but maybe it was cap issues.

Nah, I think he didn't like what was available in FA.

This was expected.

CLS is littered with defensive prospects and I don't think Zharkov has much use to them as a throw in.

They might look at a guy like Tedenby though.

CBJ will need someone that can play now for them especially if they are moving Brassard/Vermette.

As for a d-man I don't know what is out there, but saying they need a top 4 is so vague and I don't know what exactly that is anymore.

I don't understand why you guys don't send him to the minors. Molson is all about making $$

I'm hoping it isn't who I think it is. Both Leafs and Sabres want center, have defensive surplus. I guess you could throw Sens in as well, but I like to think Howson has more than 3 phone numbers in his GM directory.

I dont think Columbus has an issue with top six players. Problem is apart from Prospal, none of them are performing well.

Would Tampa be interested in Spacek or Gill from Montreal? Help you out with somewhat with defense.

Not a fan of either team... but from a neutral standpoint, I could see this being the solid base to a deal.

Although it probably wouldn't happen until Carter gets back, and may be augmented with secondary pieces (picks, prospects etc.)

Oh god Gill would be AWFUL here. Totally does not fit the Lightning system. Kubina is slow and looks so out of place, but Gill is 10x slower. No thanks.

I'd maybe take Spacek, but not for anything more than a mid round pick or so.

I'd love to have a trade worked between Bailey and Vermette if Snow was given the green light to add payroll.
