Not a great idea, but for some odd reason, I'd love to see how they do. Read is fast becoming one of my favorite Flyers and Couturier is showing great potential. If Schenn can keep up his monster play from the AHL, I wouldn't mind seeing how the three play together.

Good news.

Rinaldo is just another Carcillo waiting to happen. I can tolerate Shelley (although Derrick Settlemyre will be busy sewing up his torn jerseys from the fights he will get in and not necessarily win).

this keeps the special teams units together, unless they change those up further than replacing Nödl with Schenn on the 2nd pk (yes, yes... Read's on the pp at times as well, but I can't have a four forwards line). Makes it a kind of 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b lineup, so there's no need to be freaking out about Schenn and Read being on the fourth line.
THat would be crazy, every line has scoring potential, teams would struggle to handle that type of depth.

This will be a great test for them.

Read-Giroux-Jagr (This line killed in the preseason, give it another go)
JVR-Briere-Voracek (I think could do scary things together)
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds (Solid shut down line with offensive up)
Couturier-Talbot-Nodl (Couts and Talbot have had some solid chem)

Give Simmonds and and possibly read PP time

Schenn/Couts/Talbot/Nodl get more time priority on PK

Hartnell and Couts could switch, honestly id rather couts get 3rd line minutes over hartnell but putting that kind of contract on a 4th line usually never ends up good.

My take on the lines

JVR-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Simmonds
Read-Schenn-Voracek
Talbot-Couturier-Nodl

the 2nd line could cycle really well, with either Hartnell or Simmonds getting to the front of the net. the 3rd line would have a lot of skill, and hopefully a lot of finish.

Just my thoughts.

Couts or Schenn on the fourth line. Hartnell I thought has had a solid season so far and turned it on against the Sens. He just isn't getting the pp time this season because Simmonds is just a rock this season for us there. And there is no chance that Read goes down to the fourth line. Read has been great and it wouldn't even surprise me if he took a spot on the top two lines and Vorachek went to the third.

my fourth line for the time being would be Nodl/Schenn/Talbot and if Schenn plays well then move Couts down to the fourth.

I now fully grasp Lavy's problem....Just about every line combo I see I think is best.

He has a nice problem on his hands.

Simmonds-Giroux-Jagr
JvR-Bričre-Hartnell
Read-Schenn-Voracek
Nodl-Couturier-Talbot

Couturier is going to get a ton of PK minutes. I would love to see this line-up. I think Voracek will be a better fit than Hartnell for Schenn.

will be interesting to see what Lavi does at the next practice

In their rookie years, were Carter and Richards not our #3 and #4 centers?

Richards started at the second but he was so atrociously bad at times that he found himself on the fourth. Carter was always on the 3rd.

Yea I think I changed my preference/most likely vote, from Read to Couturier to drop down to the 4th line. Just load him up with PK minutes to get him the valuable time.

I think this is pretty solid right here. Only thing I would do is swap JvR and Simmonds. Simmonds-Briere-Hartnell could be a very interesting line. Good lord, this season is so exciting. Haha.

damn all these combinations are fun to think about

I don't think you can hurt Couturier's development at all by having him play 4th line and pk - the kid already knows how to play the game the right way. He can have less responsibility and not so many minutes to tire him out over a long season. Any offense he would provide from there would be gravy.

Also with Read - if he starts to tire out in December they can always call up Z who is a similar if not quite as good player. Nodl will get his chances when they have injuries or want to rest anybody like Read, Schenn or Couturier.

No idea about Hartnell. Would he waive his NTC? I think he would if he keeps losing minutes. I think Laviolette is going to give minutes to the guys who earn them - and right now that is NOT Scott Hartnell.

He had Roenick and Primeau ahead of him, don't think he was #2

Richards wasn't on the team when Roenick was on the team. And only briefly with Primeau.

Back in Gretzky's rookie season, Jimmy Watson was hurt and couldn't play in a game at Edmonton. A body was needed, so the Flyers called up a draft pick from Brandon/Western Hockey League named Don Gillen. Gretzky scored a goal midway in the game and gave Edmonton a lead, then Gillen followed that with a goal almost immediately to tie it. The Flyers won. It was the only game he ever played for the Flyers. That won't happen with Harry Z. Keep the faith!

Didn't he have a 3 or 4 point night too? Or was that a different guy?

No, one point in his only game.

Al Hill has the NHL record for best debut, 5 points vs. St. Louis. He is still on the Flyers' staff as a scout.
