He was supposed to be sidelined until at the least late October
I would venture it will be another week before we hear any definite news on his date of return

Yup, he came back to early and played poorly (well not the same) because he was in constant pain. he was getting it frozen every practise and game. This was about 2 years ago now.. I really like Carney I just hope they give it time to heal.. (but not to much hes in all my pools)

Duck defenseman Keith Carney, out since Oct. 2, will have his broken right foot examined tonight and could get the green light to resume skating. Carney will travel with the team on its upcoming five-game trip, which begins Tuesday against the New York Rangers. He could return to the lineup later in the trip.

My guess is he will be back Nov. 1st against the Islanders. I can't wait, He will improve or D greatly. Also It will be very intresting what this means for the future of Ward, and Vishnevski.

Ward might get to play again tonight instead of Vish. Babcock praised Wards physical play and decision making with the puck in limited minutes vs Phil.

From today's LA TIMES:

The Mighty Ducks are closer to getting defenseman Keith Carney back. He said he would be on the ice in the next five days.

Carney, out since Oct. 2 with a broken right foot, was examined during Friday's game, and the result was positive enough that he felt ready to take the next step in his rehabilitation.

He will make the upcoming five-game trip with the Ducks and said he hoped to be back in the lineup before it is over.

"They looked at it two days ago, and the foot still wasn't feeling that well," Carney said. "In just two days it was really better. That is encouraging because we can now move on to the next thing."

Carney is the linchpin of a defense that has had trouble managing the puck in his absence.

"The plan is now to get a skate on as soon as possible," Carney said. "I'm really hopeful that I will be back soon."

Carney's return will give the Ducks a glut on defense, which may force General Manager Bryan Murray to make a move.

"At some point, we're going to have eight defensemen," Murray said.

"You can never have too many defensemen, but that is not comfortable for the coach. We can't send anyone down, so we'll carry an extra player on the blue line."

Murray didn't rule out the possibility of a trade.

Can't wait to see him back in the lineup!!!

Murray may have to start thinking about trading either Vish or Ward.

I think the organization really sees Ward as a Defensmen and not a 4th line forward. I don't think Vish will be the 7th D and Ward a forward fill in. I really think one of these players will be traded. Neither Ward or Vish can be sent down to AHL without clearing waivers. Someone would grab Vish, and theres a good chance that Ward would get grabbed as well since he only makes 500,000. Trading Ward will not bring much in return. If we do keep both of these guys as extra D they will never play. We have a strong 6 with Carney in the lineup and they will both be in the pressbox everynight.

I think its time to trade Vish.

Or you do a 2 defensemen for 1 trade. It's not as if we're going to have a bunch of open roster slots up front, either.

From Sunday's LA TIMES:

Injury report: Defenseman Keith Carney worked out without the cast on his broken right foot for the first time on Saturday. He hopes to start skating within the next few days…. Mike Leclerc, who is recovering from knee surgery, skated on his own Saturday. He said he is hoping for a January return.
------------------------------------------
Carney should be back soon, I was hoping Leclerc would be back by late November...now not until January??

according to TheFourthPeriod.com Washington is a team that is in need of defensive help, and will be giving Murray a call once Carney returns. Does Washington have a young player with potential that they would give up in return for Vishnevski?

Since we got Popovic in the wings, I wouldn't mind getting a top prospect back in return for Vish. Or even a first round pick. Vitali needs a new opportunity and someone who has confidence in him. Maybe he can turn things around like Olli Jokinen has in Florida.

From Today's OC Register:

Standout defenseman Keith Carney planned to skate with his teammates this morning for the first time since suffering a broken bone in his right foot during an Oct. 2 exhibition game at Phoenix.

Depending on how the foot responds, Carney said, a best-case scenario would have him back in the lineup Wednesday at Washington.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like he will definetly be in the lineup at some point during this road trip.

I think Wed is alittle bit optimistic. The guy just had his cast removed last week and his foot should be sore for weeks.

Saturday is much more realistic I would think. I really can't wait to see him back in the line-up.
