Vermette

Wolski, Zuccarello, Thomas for Vermette

Stepan Richards Gaborik
Dubinsky Anisimov Callahan
Fedotenko Vermette Boyle
Rupp Newbury Prust
Christensen

Staal Sauer
Mcdonagh Girardi
Erixon Del Zotto
Woywitka/Eminger

Lundqvist
Biron

Not sure Columbus would touch this yet with Carter out but towards the deadline I expect them to be way out of it and they may consider this type of move.

Pass because I see it as a lateral move where we lose Christian Thomas in the process... Vermette's 09/10 season was an aberration from his average offensive output throughout a season and he's signed for 3 more years at $3.75 mil until the summer of 2015.... No guarantee that Derek Stepan stays on the wing either.... That cap hit is not attractive for 3 more seasons...

Having Thomas in the deal makes it not worth it from an NYR perspective, and taking him out makes it not worth it from a CBJ perspective.

Not thank you. Vermette isn't really what we need.

I have wanted Vermette since 2 years before he was dealt to Columbus. I would be on board with the Rangers dealing for him. He fits their mold and, IMO, would look good on that 1st line with his speed and skills. He is an exceptional PKer as well.

I wonder what the asking price is for him. I assumed he would not be moved but I would rather Vermette than trying to add Doan at the deadline or deal with Rene Bourque and his 3 years left.

The Rangers may have to think outside the box to fill that 1st line LW spot as Stepan may look good there for a few games but they need to settle their line-up, and that consists of him playing 3rd line center to provide better depth scoring.

@ 3.75 million it isn't a terrible contract and he can play on any line and help take some of the PK load.

The three pieces in this deal are fair for a player like Vermette. I would personally stay away from this deal. He adds another weapon into the lineup, but his lack of scoring in the playoffs concerns me.

42 GP 8 P

Yeah, but if you take a look, 30 of those 42 games came in his first few seasons in the league. He wasn't getting a ton of minutes back then.

The other (2) years his teams were swept so I doubt anyone really played all that well. Not making excuses because he should produce, but he hasn't been with a legitimate team in quite some time.

I think a smart target for the Rangers should be Bryan Bickell.

Maybe Zucc & 3rd would do it.

6'4 233 pounds..he had 17 & 20 last year...he could be paired with Newbury and Rupp on the 4th or put Prust with the 4th and Feds-Boyle and Bickell could form the 3rd.

top 2 lines remain as they are...

Looking at his game log from the '07 playoffs, he never got less than 10 minutes in a game. Most games he was getting upwards of 14. Some nights he got close to 18 minutes. He averaged 16:19. Granted, he did average 3:57 on the PK, but it's still pretty disappointing for a 24 year old on a strong offensive team.

I like him as a player, but I'm not sure if I buy lack of minutes as a justification for what amounts to pretty lousy production.

But where were those minutes coming from? You said it was about 4 minutes on average of PK time. That leaves him with 12 minutes a night of even strength time. About on par with a normal 3rd line.

He was used as mainly a defensive player during his early years.

Vermette is a decent player, but under no circumstances should the Rangers look to make a move for someone like him. He serves no purpose on this team. This team has plenty of complimentary and role players. They don't need another one. Vermette is also more valuable to Columbus than he would be to the Rangers. He'll cost way more than this team should be willing to pay for a guy who would be a redundant piece on this squad.

Save your assets and your cap space for 1-2 MAJOR upgrades this season or next season.

Left winger to play on the top line. That's what we need to hold out for.

I would've loved Gagne.
