What a nice early Christmas present getting rid of Hartnell would be. What a waste of money.

He seemed to change his mind in the middle: at first "getting with Hartnell" seemed like the ideal Christmas gift, but later he decided that the services would not be worth the cost.

Hartnell has always been prone to stretches like this. Let's wait it out a bit guys.

This is Hartnell's 11th year in the league. Honestly, he knows what he has to do in order to be successful and every year it's always the same thing - inconsistency reigns supreme in Hartnell's game.

People can say what they want, but the man is the 2nd highest paid forward on the team and he's only playing 10 to 11 minutes a night. 10 to 11 minutes a night. His ice time has consistently dropped for the past two seasons and it looks like this is going to be a third season.

Honestly, the Flyers need to wash their hands of this bum. And that's exactly what he is - a bum. He got a big contract based on potential and he's failed to deliver. Can't wait for the day that he's given the boot from Philadelphia. That'll make me almost as happy as if the Flyers were to win the Stanley Cup.

They need to shed some salary to close to the cap ceiling with this lineup if Shelley and or walker aren't set loose then only other idea player will be Hartnell......

Through two periods against the caps and it is clear Hartnell is still out to dinner with Richards!

I don't know what to make of him in this game...that throw away pass in the 1st leading to the goal was SO bad

But he played really well in the 2nd, had some good hits, good passes, and Lavy didn't cut his TOI. It seemed like he was out there every other shift.

I still think that awful pass outweighs the positives.

All kinds of bad passes in that game, but some players just happen to get away with it.....Prongers tripping penalty was really a dumb penalty that led to a goal etc.....Just a bad game tonight, and too many missed chances by Briere and JVR tonight.Just one of them throw away games in my opinion that all the lads need to learn from.

Yeah but Hartnell's was...as bad as they get, the ultimate no-no in defensive hockey, throwing it blindly to the middle of your own zone. You'd expect that from a rookie on the PK, not a vet at ES.

It was absolutely a bad pass ! And he got burned for it. As did Pronger get burned for a dumb tripping penalty etc....Next game's another chance to get it right.

Yea but Pronger's start to the season hasn't been anywhere near as horrific as Hartnell's start to the season.

I'm one if his defenders, but after that turnover I'm about ready to keel him.

Alright... I don't want to bother with any of the idiots on the main board. So I'm going to just bring the question over here.

Hypothetical situation: Hartnell is getting traded to Anaheim.

What are you guys getting back?

2nd and a 4th. Cap space and our team gets a little less ugly.

He knows he isn't doing well. I think he was just trying to force something instead of playing his game. I don't think effort is an issue, he just has to get into a groove or get on a line that plays to his strengths. Hartnell isn't a super athlete, not is he blessed with great hockey smarts, so he isn't a super versatile player. At anything but his very very best, he isn't a 4 million dollar player either. That said he has things that he does very well, and he can still be a big positive for the Flyers on the ice if he can get into a rhythm or find some chemistry.

Some perspective:

Hartnell was a 50 point +14 player last year (forward avg. of +7.5), a 45 point -6 player the year before (average +/- for forwards that season was -1), and a 60 point +14 player they year before that (forward avg. was +2.75).

The man has a track record of producing like a middle-of-the-pack second line winger, and being a very good team mate. That is a useful thing to have, let's not dispose of it because our shiny new toys are still working great right now and he's having a rough stretch. These boards (to be fair sports fans in general) can be so god damn myopic at times.

I don't want to trade him (yet), so I don't think I would come up with a truly fair proposal. You should make a couple offers (maybe one focused on futures, and maybe another with a roster player coming back plus some cap relief). He would look good on the Ducks though. Can you imagine the wear and tear they could put on opposing d-men in a 7 game series with all those big forwards.

EDIT: Sorry for the post-whoreing. Would've done multi-quotes but didn't see this post till after I already made my first post.

Would love to have Sbisa back. But doubt that gets it done. How about Brandon McMillan and a prospect?
