Ricky tweeted this to Carcillo before the game. He seems to be tweeting more now....doesn't have media breathing down his neck.

The only thing keeping me from getting too excited is that the Kings were 12-3 last year.

I hope that Richards is the kind of player that can keep the Kings from massive losing streaks. He just oozes intensity. It definitely feels like a different Kings team this year.

Btw, did I miss something in the pregame show? Why in the world was Bob calling Mike Smith Mike Brown? Even AFTER Jim Fox kept saying Mike Smith?

It's because that white is like camouflage. The other teams can't see them.

Wow. It's like a jilted-girlfriend complex or something in Philly. That's one bitter article.

You need to bump this in the thread about him getting boo'd on the main board. Only a "few philly fans boo'd him" No wonder Rick hated the media.

Great win. Richards really knows how to turn things up. There were several times I saw where he didn't give up on the play and ended up getting some good opportunities from it. I think Kopitar may be taking a thing or two out of the Richards book because he is also doing very well at stripping the puck.

Glad to see the 4th line finally score, especially with a play from Kevin Westgarth. That line tonight really did well defensively too. Definitely lived up to the 4th line "Energy" role. I wish Lewis had more of a scoring touch, then they'd be a real threat.

Is it just me or does it seem like Quick has changed some things about his style these past few games? It seems his positioning is better and instead of just relying on pure athleticism to move side to side he's also coming forward to challenge the shooters. It looks like he isn't as quick to go down as much either. I hope the way Quick is playing continues, at this rate I can't see Bernier ever usurping Quick.

Honestly, didn't notice Voynov too much - maybe that's a good thing. On the other hand, I almost didn't notice Doughty wasn't on the ice. The Coyotes didn't do much to challenge the D, must have been an off game for them.

It feels like times are changing in LA, they not only beat the Blues and Yotes, they shut them out!

Nice workman-like effort. That's what it takes to be a very good team in the regular season. Quick is on his game right now. Quick lateral movement when he needs to get across. Hardly any movement at all when he is square to the shooter and on his angle.

It's very easy for a team to play well in front of a goalie that plays like this.

The Philly media and fans have already turned from hating Richie to hating Hartnell. Briere, JvR and Jagr aren't far behind. Briere has been just awful with high sticking penalties, JvR signed an extension this summer and has barely produced and Jagr still hasn't scored. Bryz was booed last night and apparently looked lackadaisical while play was going on late in the game. There's also an interview a Russian newspaper did with Bobrovsky in which he says he and Bryz have a professional relationship and that's it. Bob sees himself in contention for the #1 job and sees the two of them as rivals. We'll see what happens between them as the season rolls along.

This just can't continue - it's just embarassing for the NHL. With the December "deadline" to have new PHX ownership, if this doesn't happen, the Coyotes need to be put up for sale to be moved ANYWHERE - before next season.

I don't care about the previous ower's problems, the Coyotes have had a very good team over the past 3 - 5 years and fans still do not show up.

And GG! - those 3rd jerseys they have are just awful. There's a reason no other team wears dark brown jerseys.

I think people forget that Quick is only 25. He's going to improve as he learns on the job. He's even improved his work behind the net. I don't remember any glaring mistakes from stick handling this season. He seems to communicate better with his defense.

I agree, but it will really suck for the kings if they move out of the pacific division. Our travel sucks enough as it is.

As for the game, I thought that Penner had a pretty strong effort. There's just something about him though that looks lazy, especially when he's out of gas. Guess it's because he's just a big dude so it's noticeable when he's not moving. In any case, I saw a lot of hustle out of him last night and I hope he gets rewarded soon with some goals.

Wow. It's like a jilted-girlfriend complex or something in Philly. That's one bitter article.

You nailed it with that analogy.

Adam Proteau wrote an article about the Kings (great read) in the july issue of The HOckey news . The article 'Carpe Diem' (a tatoo that MR sports) was about what a terrific player he and what he'll bring to the Kings, furthering their Cup quest
He brought out your same point stating that what happened to Mike Richards and the Flyers trade and the media was like 'when a stunning woman breaks up with you and you invent/embellish things about her to make yourself feel better because she'd not around anymore'
And that best defines it...

What the Kings are starting to feel and act on is the Mike Richards effect. Something he's been doing on every team since he's been 10 years old and winning championships in the process. It's that he plays with equal parts inspiration/desperation/perspiration , i.e. all balls and heart. When the players on the bench see him bust out like that on a shift , most of them will want to try to live up to that standard when their leg goes over the bench.
And it works...
You add his high hockey IQ and on ice vision, and give him skilled players to team with and it's a recipe for sucess
Look at the change in the PP...his vision and confidence with the decisions he makes creates a ripple effect and the others play more confident because of that.
