Hilarious, just a classy organization I really hope this will go on for a long time but having a fear it will change when Chris and his buddy Wilson are taking over.

The Wings were visible before Wilson came onboard. Why do you want to give him the credit for something that teams have been doing for years, in numerous markets and sports?
I remember a group of them playing with U of M players against the US U-18 team during the lockout to benefit Mott Children's Hospital.

Wings didn't do 1/2 the autograph signings they do now after the lock out; be it public or private. This Giving Thanks to Hockeytown is the first year they've done it and it will continue most likely since it was such a huge success and especially since it was towards their sponsors.

It's fine to address specifics, but your initial post made it sound like they did nothing in the community until Wilson showed up. There are numerous examples of visits to schools, hospitals and sick kids who are big fans, etc. Some of the players take things on themselves, like some of Datsyuk's work in his home town.

The Wings have always done a great job with Charity events like at Children's Hospital, Toast of Hockeytown, etc. They did not however do great when it came to general fan interaction after the back to back cup wins. The team was so popular they didn't really need to.
Prior to the original cup wins you could go down before the games and stand by the player parking lot and get autographs (even if you didn't have a ticket), had the fan fests, had free or low cost autograph events, had the player dinner where you could go have dinner with the team and get autos. Most of that dried up in the 2000s. Which was fine and dandy when the team had established franchise faces like Yzerman, Feds, Shanny, Lids, Konstantinov, etc. When they retired however the franchise really felt the disconnect with fans. It is one of the reasons why attendance drop (ticket prices and the lockout being the other). It took awhile to get people to identify with Datsyuk, Kronwall, Zetterberg etc. Wilson is doing a great job getting the Wings players back into the hearts of fairweather Wing's fans, and continueing the great charitable duties the Wings have carried out for quite awhile now.
