KK to Sweden?

Rumour has it that Kirill Kabanov, a prospect in the New York Islanders system, will be playing in Sweden this year. Have you guys heard anything?

Swedish hockey sites wrote about it, citing Russian sources. No clubs mentioned afaik.

I read that it was a tryout or something..

Can anybody following Farjestad keep this thread updated?
I'd like to start following SEL or that team at least if this goes through.

Will he stay in Färjestad for whole season? Should be VERY interesting to follow him in Elitserien.

It´s a try-out until the "November break", whenever that is.

Thanks, guys! BTW, is that pronounced FAIR-ye-shtad, FAR-ye-shtad, or something else? (I might have to open a new thread here just for Swedish-Hockey pronunciation)

The first is more accurate, but put the middle part closer to the first:
FAIRye-shtad

Free translation: Ferry landing
(Stad does in normal swedish equal town/city but I think it is an older form of "place" used here)

Shawinigan

It now seems that KK is going to Shawinigan in the QMJHL

The way the Färjestad roster looks like on Eliteprospects, Kabanov might be on loan to FBK until November 6 and returns to juniors (Shawinigan in the QMJHL) after that.

those sneaky Ruskies!

It now appears that the flirtation with Farjestad was just a ruse by the Kabanov camp to get Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (who had held his Major Junior rights) to trade him to Shawinigan. The extent to which the Islanders participated in this trickery is anybody's guess.
