Ron "Hollywood"Hainsey, a talented, big, smooth skating defensemen looking for a change of scenarie.

Nikita alexeev TB
Nick Schultz Minnesota

sergei soin

i want someone who still has potential but not completely a bust( i feel Ron is the same, still has potential but not with the Habs i don't think)

I know he is not from the 2000 first round, but Brandon Reid for Ron Hainsey?

The Lightning would jump on that considering Alexeev is worthless, in Russia almost certainly never coming back to NA.

I'm really not sure that anybody in their right minds would give anything up for Hainsey at this point.

Since Hainsey wasnt picked up by any competent club in the National Hockey League during waivers and free agency, its safe to say that his trade value is 0. Alexeev and Smirnov could be packaged for a raty puck bag and possibly a used proposed "modified" net from this summer...

Smirnov couldn't because he is a unrestricted free agent

I wouldn't trade Hainsey at this point. He has 9 points in 9 games in the AHL so far, maybe being waived and not getting claimed by any team woke him up and put his head in place.

Kirill Koltsov for Hainsey maybe? Have the 'Nucks given up on KK as he plays in Russia once again this year? Maybe the prospect of playing with fellow ruskies in Kovalev, Markov and Perezhogin could entice him to comeback to NA next season.

Lack of defense
no work ethic what so ever
clashes with coaches and front office members

He is big sure, but don't expect him to do anything but coast around.

Would Schultz make it to the AHL? Nope...Did Hainsey? Yep...you'll need to add something.

Add something to a deal for a guy who probably has negative trade value? Ew.

Nobody out there thinks enough of Hainsey to take him for free, so nobody is going to pay anything for him either. Maybe if the habs offered to pay his salary for the remainder of his contract you could find a taker.

p.s. please, please, please, please, please stop with the Hainsey trade threads. It's been two years of almost every habs trade proposal including Hainsey. The horse died 15 months ago, stop beating it.

One I have been hearing alot abut for Hainsey is a possible

Hainsey - unnamed ( Either Streit or a pick ) for Tom Poti

But the Rangers will have to swallow some Salary as the Habs will only want to cover about 2 000 000 $

Why would the Wild trade Nick Schultz for him? Schultz is a legitimate NHL regular and a solid defensive player.

I would imagine, if they traded Hainsey, if would be for another dman prospect project. Habs are stocked in young forward talent, but not many defencemen in the system. That or a throw-in as a part of a bigger deal.

If Minnessota was willing to trade Schultz for Hainsey + pick, Gainey would jump on it for sure. At 23 years old, he already has over 200 games played in the NHL. He represents the kind of D-man Habs are missing in their defensive lineup (altought one with more offensive upside would be better). Sadly, I don't see why Minn would trade him.

Can't, or can't and have it not count against the cap? I was under the impression that you just couldn't take the cap hit for the other team, but could still send money over in a trade.

They may be willing to give him a chance if some team is trying to dump a salary. Hainsey for a salary dump would make sense.

problem with that is, who is going to make such a deal?

Didn't Hainsey already clear waivers? He's also got a higher than min. salary against the cap as well. Any team that has a project dman, would only be interested in making such a deal if that player was also on a similar contract (higher than min. salary for a player who's been a bust so far), and one that wouldn't have waiver problems either.

An example from the canucks that has been mentioned is Koltsov - but that makes no sense for the canucks, since Koltsov isn't a waiver problem, nor does he even have a contract right now that affects the payroll... plus Hainey to Vancouver wouldn't work anyways, since we couldn't take on his salary under the cap.

Considering the number of teams out there in similar situations, I don't think the value would be there to get anything for Hainsey at this point.

Montreal's best option is to hold on to him and let him play the year out in the AHL and hopefully increase his value... otherwise you're looking at a mid round pick from a team with no salary issues, that could take the chance on a dman.

I'd guess he's worth about a 4th or 5th rounder at this stage - and that not knowing his entire contract status. If he needs to clear waivers to be brought up, then his value is obviously nothing right now.

His value is further hurt by the new CBA as well... teams are more reluctant to carry a full 23 man roster... so the extra player(s) they are carrying either need to be more useful, and not another project, and/or need to be on min. salary contracts, so it's easier to control the payroll under the cap.
