if he's stuggling and the oddman out he may be had in a deal. I would take a shot on him for sure

He's talking about when Sauer gets back, so he's proposing something similar to the following:

McDonagh - Girardi
Del Zotto - Sauer
Woywitka - Erixon
Eminger

Bell would be returned to the AHL.

ahh ok My fault then.
Even Still, I think they send bell down and Woywitka becomes the healthy scratch - Tort's trusts him more because he knows about him

Any news in how much longer until Staalsy can come back. I have not heard anything. Is it like the Salvador situation where he could possibly miss the whole season?

Maybe, just maybe, the Rangers are pulling a nice surprise for all of us. They will not say anything about Staal and come the home opener there he will be, ready to go.

Yea, i can dream right?

Yeah Franson is getting exposed pretty badly right now. Nashville fans were right that he was sheltered there

You could be right. We could see Staal AND Sauer for opening night... one can only hope

Actually, I believe we can't see Staal for opening night. He is on IR and has to be reactivated 7 days prior to the game to play. Only way he would've been able to play is if he was reactivated on Thursday. Staal isn't playing on Thursday.

thats not true. when you are put on IR you must remain on IR for a minimum of 7 days. but they can activate a guy off ir 30 seconds before the game starts as long as there is an open roster spot to take him off ir

I'm not sure why Brooks would even suggest trading for Suter or Weber. That's not the type of reaction that a team makes when a top player is injured, that's a core-changing move that shakes up a team. And by all accounts, it seems like the Rangers are satisfied with this core going forward.

There are plenty of second and third pairing defensemen with expiring contracts at the end of the season that can probably be had without giving up a lot in return. Those are the sort of players that should be targeted in a trade if Staal is to miss an extended period of time.

Where did he say this? Column today?

And I gotta disagree. Getting a Suter or Weber here would fill in the 2nd of 3 elite pieces the Rangers want to add that Scheony was taling about - IF the deal is right of course.

i fully expect Sauer back for opening night, and I think thats the best move. Staal on the other hand, I was under the impression that you had to be activated 7 days before you can play. Thats what was said when Crosby can come off IR at any point and play because he's been on since last year. So we would have known yet if Staal would play a week in advance. I just hope that he can start skating by the end of october...I expect a late November return, Im hoping Sat Nov 26th vs the Flyers at MSG.

Just Read Brooks' article - completely agree with him. Losing Staal has exposed a massive hole on our defense.

The problem is that the deal in all likelihood would create too many holes in the long run... Brooks named Del Zotto, Dubi, Anisimov, Kreider, etc., as some of the players that would be packaged in return. Suter is going to be a free agent after this season, it's not worth gutting the team when he may be available this summer.

I want Ryan Suter over Shea weber. I think weber is peaking right now, while Suter is going to have a long elite career. weber also makes 7.5 this year as a RFA. don't want any part of that.

Agreed its the same as the BR argument. What would the team be like if we didnt have Artie and MDZ right now because theyd been sent to dallas? Both are getting better and assume they only continue to get better the next 3 years. Holding onto all and getting a guy in FA is how you buiold a team. Promoting youth and then trading it for expiring contracts is knee jerk, impatient and is not the right move for us tho it sometimes can work with the right team in place.

He'll be UFA, but I seriously doubt we will go after him.

there's always a chance.

Parise-Richards-Gaborik would be a spicy trio.
Suter is a better D target than Weber. He'll be had for much less cap$ and if signed as a UFA, less assets (i.e. none). That said, we have to be careful with how we use our cap with many RFAs in 2013 (Sauer, McD, Anisimov, Stepan). I'm sure Sather will be his shrewd self and them all under decent cap numbers but we don't want to spend ourselves into a corner this summer. We probably will want to resign Prust. He'll probably get a hefty raise circa $1.8-2.0M per

Parise-Richards-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Calllahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Rupp-Boyle-Prust

is that lineup financially sustainable? And we'll need a new backup unless we resign Biron.
