Radek Martinek to IR with concussion, John Moore called up

From Porty
Quote:
Aportzline Aaron Portzline
#CBJ D Radek Martinek (concussion) going on IR; D John Moore coming up from Springfield.
Quote:
#CBJ D John Moore has arrived in Ottawa. Could play tonight, as could Savard, which suggest a player beyond Martinek (concussion) is hurting
Thats makes the average age of our active defense men 24.71........

Martinek to the IR, John Moore recalled

I'm not ablle to make threads currently [don't ask] but just caught this:

Columbus Blue Jackets Place D Radek Martinek on IR; Recall D John Moore from Springfield

http://bluejackets.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=597012

I guess this organization really doesn't like Holden? I would've bet my liver that he was called up to replace Martinek and not John Moore.

This is only a guess, but this call up is only going to be for a game and if you call up Holden he will have to pass waivers to go back down and it's not worth the chance he will be claimed to come up for only one game.

IMO Holden (but Holden would go on waiver) with Goloubef play better than Moore but I will wish him best because I very like Johny

I thought since he recently passed through waivers that he could play a game or two with us. I'm not 100% clear on that rule but I know we've utilized it in the past. If you are correct about exposing Holden to waivers, were he to be recalled, then that does make sense.

Moore was very 'meh' last year. Hope he can carry that over because 'meh' would automatically make him one of the best players on the roster.

Training staff: "Scotts, Radek Martinek has a concussion"

Scott Howson: "That crazy guy, he told me he was done with those"

Scott Arniel: "He's likely our best defensive defenseman, House... we'll need a suitable replacement"

SH: "Hmm... John Moore is the best defenseman in our system, after all, we drafted him in the first round"

SA: "Do you really think he's capable in his own zone by now?"

SH: "Meh ... he'll fit right in with the rest of our guys"

Great idea, guys ... let's call up the least ready defenseman in our system, to replace the one guy who has some defensive capability.

We'll get to witness some of Howson's draft magic that Palinka's been bragging about.

On the bright side, it could lead indirectly to us drafting another Russian, which we've done so well with in the past.

Concussions are a new injury for him. But Radek spending time on the IR is an all too familiar place for him. Shame. Get well soon Radek.

Hey is he still wearing #24 for you guys?

players are waiver exempt for a min of three years if they sign their first pro contract before the age of 23.

Players signed at 18 and waiver exempt for 5 years, at 19 it would be 4 years and it's 3 years for players signed at age 20-23. It's slightly longer for goalies as I recall. There are also games played thresholds, it's 160 games for most players.

This applied to Josh Bailey who'd played 159 games at one point last year, Snow sent him to the AHL for 11 games. Once he played game 160, he is no longer waiver exempt so they cannot send him down.

Moore can be sent up and down all Columbus wants.

He won't likely replace Martinek. He was one of my favourite NYI players and a top defenseman for a long time. Very useful player who was underappreciated because he simply couldn't stay healthy.

How was he playing in Columbus? I had intended to watch him play, didn't get the chance, unfortunately.

Since Holden passed through waivers once, if he was recalled on an emergency basis and sent back down, he wouldn't need to pass through again unless he played 9 games in Columbus (like what happened to Sestito last season).

So, there's no reason Holden couldn't be recalled due to waiver rules - unless they see Martinek's injury as being long term.

The worst defense in the league somehow continues to get worse.

Clitsome, Russell, and Moore, 3 guys with no defensive skills.

I have an idea. Let's not play with ANY defense! 5 forwards and a goalie. LOL

I thought he looked decent, Arniel only played him and Savard 9+ minutes.

Moore and Savard didn't disappoint. They were not on the ice during any of the Ottawa goals scored, if the post game info is correct.

He is wearing #2 as Derek Mackenzie wears #24.
