Cole is a much better player with more potential. Petrecki has no hockey sense at all. He may make it to the NHL but then again he may be a life long AHL player.

I wouldn't trade one Ian Cole for 10 Nick Petreckis. Cole looked awesome in training camp and many people think he earned the 5th D-spot ahead of Pietrangelo. 6'1", 215 pounds, strong as an ox with good offensive instincts. He's looking like a left-handed Roman Polak, with better offense. He'll be in St. Louis just as soon as Brewer, Jackman or Colaiacovo give way.

Yeah, Petrecki is quite far from making the NHL.... someone should rebump this thread in another two years.

Petrecki sounds like the american version of Christoph Schubert. All the tools to be a top defenseman... does not seem to put it together.

yeah, thats what i've heard too. i'm surprised so many of the first posters were still so high on him. after he made the jump, i lost hope that he was going to be a top-2 d-man. top-4, please. *fingers crossed*

I can see Cole being a top-pairing defenseman with great two-way ability. Petrecki is going to be a bruiser, but I don't know about much more than that.

Cole is too solid all around not to be considered the better prospect IMO.

This.

I respect Jarmo's decisions probably more than any other head scout with the exception of Hakan Andersson.

Ian Cole HANDS DOWN!! The kid is as strong as an ox, so sound defensively and knows exactly when to sneak in for an offensive play. Should be playing in the NHL very soon!

Petrecki reminds me too much of Nick Boynton.

Most on here know about Petrecki, I know more about Cole. He has a good first pass, good skating ability and a decent shot. He has a very active stick. Cole is a freak in the gym, one of the strongest players at camp, absolutely ripped and jacked out of his mind. Problem is his style of play puts in positions to take as many vulnerable hits that he gives. Has histry of concussions and has already taken 3 monster hits since camp but bounced back fine. He needs to learn to put his body in better position when going into his corner for the puck. He has potential to be a top 4 dman for the Blues in two years and be the Jackman replacement. Hope this helps some out on Cole knowledge.

Can Cole fight ? Also, can you give me a Cole comparison ? He seems like Scott Stevens by the way people describe him.

He will be better offensively, I think. But all-around, I think he is the best defenseman in the Blues system, currently.

Better than EJ and Petro ? Or do you mean better than anybody not on the big team ?

Brad Stuart would be a good comparison for him. Cole should good enough to be a solid contributor in our top four next to EJ or Pietrangelo in any situation.

I think I'm one of the few SJ fans who hasn't given up on Petrecki yet. Oh well maybe they both will end up being horrible.

I meant best all-around defenseman on the team. EJ and Petro will be better offensively for sure, but all around, Cole will take the cake.

Petrecki is an absolute animal. I think his parents used to lock him in a cage.

Just a mean SOB, though I doubt he ever breaks 30 pts at the NHL level.

EDIT - If he even consistently sticks.

if all 3 hit their potential.. cole will be 3rd for all around play.. even right now.. he's probably 3rd.. Petro's defense so far has been fantastic.

According to a few posters on the Sharks board, Petrecki is actually playing alot better this year and all SJ fans hope he continues to progress. He is big, nasty and a mean SOB but I like that he knows what he needs to improve on to become a full time NHLer.

both guys are playing in the AHL right now.

Cole is probably the top defensive prospect for the Blues right now

is Petrecki behind Braun
