Canucks Not Finished Dealing

Per Bruce Garrioch

Canucks GM Mike Gillis is working the phones pretty hard. Wondering what the issue is there? #NHL.

Now, I know it's Garrioch (Who can be way out there sometimes), but he's also at least somewhat dialed-in and seems to be respected by other journalists, so I'd be curious if there's something there.

The Canucks are trying to get there 3rd back from Anaheim, so they can offer sheet a player. Me thinks it's Weber.

Pretty sure they want to trade a defenseman to the Islanders.

can Turris not get an offer sheet? Did they not get a 3rd back from FLA for taking Reinprechts contract?

They already have that 2013 3rd rounder from the Booth trade. A Weber offer sheet would come after the 2012 draft. The only use for a 2012 3rd rounder at this point is Turris.

So Garrioch follows Eklund

Dreger also tweeted that the Canucks may not be done alone with hockey breaks saying something about a third round pick we're trying to get back from Anaheim.

Vancouver and Florida make a significant early season trade. Not surprised,a lot of discussion around the league. Canucks may not be done.

We'll see.

They wouldn't need to do that. To offer sheet Weber you would need 2013 draft picks since Weber won't be a UFA til after the 2012 draft.

To offersheet someone, I'm sure you need to have YOUR team's picks, not the picks of any other team.

I think it brings its benefits.

Getting the new players accustomed to the system can take some time. By doing it early, it gives us players that will be accustom to the system come the trade deadline and playoffs.

Hence the reason they are apparently in talks with Anahiem about reacquiring their OWN pick with was sent in I believe the Lapierre/Higgins deal.

The Canucks traded their 2013 3rd rounder for Higgins last deadline. They re-acquired it yesterday with Booth. It wasn't Florida's draft pick.

And the 2012 3rd rounder from Anaheim is also the Canucks' draft pick, traded for Lapierre last deadline.

I heard Schneider is going to be traded this week to either Columbus or Phoenix

I heard if its Phoenix its for Turris, 3rd and Pogge

If its Columbus its for Sanford and Russell

Consensus seems to be that they want the pick from Anaheim to offer sheet Turris.

However, I'm not so certain about that. If they want Turris, a trade would make more sense.

I'm guessing Turris for Tanev.

What? Are you assuming that Gillis made the Booth trade out of panic? All off-season he said over and over again that his #1 priority was a winger for Kesler, whether that be from a signing or from a trade. This trade is made even if the Canucks are 8-0 right now. Booth is an upgrade in talent no matter how you look at it. The cap hit is questionable, but it's not a problem this season.

I don't think they're offer sheeting Weber. But I do think we would offer sheet Turris.

also Chris Tanev was a scratch in last night's game (for the chicago wolves) and also out today for the reason "maintanence day" which doesn't make any sense. It appears something's up. On the Nuck's board people are assuming Tanev for Turris...

it does seem like something it brewing here though.
