Josh Nichols 4g 2a night

Had a hand in every one of Saskatoon's goals and scored the only shootout goal for Saskatoon.

(this is for Renegade Stylings so that people to stop pissing at him)

Hope he can make the jump up the Leafs depth chart this year!

Saw him last season in Saksatoon (just after the Schenn trade) and I was pretty impressed.

Big rangy winger. Good speed and good skater. More of a scorer than a playmaker.

He's been all over the lineup this year but has mostly played with Ryan Olsen and Chris Collins. Since Collins got injured recently, he's seen some time with Brent Benson and Matej Stransky too.

Why don't you think he will make the NHL?

Hey RS, whats his frame like? Does it look like he should be able to pack on some significant muscle? Sort of like the Josh Leivo situation, good skaters, lanky but might be the type of guy that matures into a PF?

Does Nicholls have a nasty side at all?

- He's around 6'2 and was extremely skinny last year. Came into camp with about 10 extra pounds of muscle this year and it shows. He could still use more strength all over his frame, obviously as he is only 19.

- I don't think he'll ever really be a powerforward...doesn't play with enough mean in his game. Is more of a speedster who scores and does damage in transition.

What do you think his upside is?

He was really impressive. Being in the east I always saw his name but rarely saw him play. For some reason I thought he was an undersized forward who scored a ton but did not have an NHL future (like shinnimin). Surprised to see he's actually 6'2" and seemed pretty sturdy when I saw him Tuesday. He's got speed, skill, hockey IQ and a frame large enough to play in the NHL. Probably needs to add some muscle but he's a pretty good value for where he was drafted. Lots of upside for someone drafted so late.

Reminds me a lot of Chuck Kobasew at the same age, to be honest. Hope I'm not jumping in your way here, RS.

Played a good game last night here in Spokane. Went to the net hard, created some chances down low.

It's worth mentioning that, not only did he have 4/2 in that game in Portland, he also scored in the shootout - the only goal for his team in the tie breaker. So, he literally had a hand in every goal that his team scored on the night. I think Nichols certainly projects as a third liner in the NHL; possibly a second line guy if he continues to develop at such a rapid pace.

I said last year that I see him as a potential 3rd line winger in the NHL if he continues to develop and work hard. I feel the same way right now.
