hey guys, its been a while since i posted, nice to be back. There was a thread on Joe's 1000th game, but nothing adressing this specific point.
So once a year my wife buys me really good tickets for a Bruins game, and this year it happened to be Jumbo's 1000th game. If you were watching on TV im sure you are aware that during the first period they played a video montage dedication to Joe Thornton congratulating him on his 1000th, and also thanking him for his years here with our beloved team.
The crowd reacted to this by cheering, clapping, and a semi-standing ovation. Not only did Joe not come onto the ice and give a wave, but he didnt even seem to react while sitting on the bench.
Maybe im being a little sensative, and im sure many of you wont even care - but even my wife, who isnt nearly as into hockey as i am, turn to me and said "shouldnt he salute the crowd, or wave, or anything?"
anyones thoughts?
PS - if he did do something, and i missed it, politely let me know and i will change this thread. i was watching pretty hard, but it was a tough angle from where i was sitting.
**EDIT** - so i have been informed that, sure enough, he waved from the bench. my apologies to Joe. i really was looking for him to react, and i was almost positive i saw nothing. i couldnt find a replay on youtube, so this whole i went thinking he didnt give a sht. my bad.

He definitely acknowledged it, waved from the bench for an extended period of time.
He said in an article over the weekend that he was rooting for the Bruins to win the Cup. I don't think he has much if any hard feelings with the current organization. That probably ended with OC.

ok, my fault then. i had no way of doublechecking obviously before posting. this whole time i went thinking that he didnt react.
i was wondering if maybe he was bitter because we cheer when he gets hit, or because some people boo him with the puck, but i would expect someone of his character to understand that it is just friendly harassment. with that said...he waved? thank you for letting me know.

Maybe if you came up for air (profile pic) you would have noticed...Don't blame you though...

If something like this comes up in the future, instead of trying to see from a bad angle, try looking at the Jumbotron. They usually show that sort of thing.
I also DVR games I attend, because there are a lot of things that are easily missed when you're at the game, and watching the replay can often clear questions up.
I don't know which I was more surprised about, The fact that they addressed Thornton's 1,000th game mark or the standing ovation he received from the fans.
It was great to see. As mad as I was about his comments towards the Bruins style of play last year (I think it was around the time of the Chara/Patches incident), I don't see the need to boo him. Not like he asked to be traded.

I thoroughly enjoyed being there for it, I most certainly stood and clapped....for the main reason that he was the face of our team when I first REALLY started getting into the Bruins....hence also why I was a smidge bothered when I THOUGHT he didn't appreciate it
