Still not back. It's going to be a long season. I hope I'm wrong. When he's healthy, a solid top 9 forward and works well playing back with offensive minded players. I remember the Briere years well.

What's the deal with Derek Roy? I've heard he's dealing with some lingering shoulder problems. Does he look healthy or is he clearly playing at less than 100%? Is Adam pretty solidly locked into the #1 center spot with Vanek and Pominville, or will Roy get another shot at the #1 center spot? I just traded Adam for Roy in my fantasy league, so I was curious to see what some Sabres fans thought of that move.

Coach Lindy Ruff is hopeful the line will improve when its center gets up to speed. Roy missed the second half of last season with a leg injury and most of the preseason with a shoulder strain.
Quote:
"I don't think Derek is quite up to speed yet," Ruff said. "He's playing OK, but OK for Derek is not the level he needs to be. I just think quicker plays, quicker decisions. When he's really on his game, he's getting opportunities and he's setting up the people around him."

He's all good. He may not be totally 100%, but I doubt it's anything really slowing his game down. Getting used to his linemates is probably more of a consideration than his shoulder.

I wouldn't worry about Roy at all, still getting into the swing of things after missing over half of the season last year all while adjusting to new linemates. Adam is solidly locked into the spot with Vanek and Pominville, but that could change with 1 or two games. And Roy is playing with Stafford and Gerbe which isn't too shabby in itself.

If your trade was straight up then it was a good deal.

Forward Jochen Hecht missed his seventh straight game to start the season, but during the morning skate he looked his best since suffering a concussion in training camp.

"I'm feeling better," said Hecht, who still has no timetable for a return. "I don't want to get in that situation like last year where I came back and didn't feel right. It's a different situation this year, too. We're not fighting for the playoffs. It's not the end of the year. The team is going well, so we want to make sure that I'm all right."

Also updates on Goose and Stafford's maintenance days.

http://wgr550.com/Hecht-Returns--Gau...ctice/11256397

Quote:
Gaustad has a hip flexor but told WGR's Paul Hamilton that he should be fine for the Tampa game. The injury did occur in the third period of Thursday's win over Florida.

Stafford was limping and said it's something he's been dealing with and it didn't happen against the Panthers.

All Lindy Ruff would say was, "Paul and Staff, just a little bit of maintenance today. We decided to keep them out, but there shouldn't be any issues for tomorrow."

Didn't realize Stafford had a lingering injury issue. Obviously these injuries aren't keeping either out of the lineup since this article was on Friday.

He can limp all season if he plays like he has been for the past 12 months.

It could have been a lot worse. Week to week could have him back (but not at 100%) in a couple weeks, which is basically what I was hoping for. If Hecht can come back soon and play at a level we're accustomed to, then it's at worst a lateral move. A Leino or Boyes should be able to step in to the slot. If production picks up from one of those guys or Roy, then production should hold steady at the very least.

Ennis has a bright future but right now he's not overly important to the team, especially when he's not really clicking. At this point of the season, I'm not very concerned with losing him for a couple weeks. I just hope it doesn't go much longer because we want him to find his game and be in a nice groove by the time the home stretch rolls along.

Waited outside the Center this afternoon for autographs after morning skate, and Ennis was at the building, and was last to leave. As he left, he had a walking boot on his hurt foot and was limping a bit. Just reporting what I saw.

Even for Lindy, this is pretty ambiguous

Sabres forward Jochen Hecht(notes), who hasn’t been able to play since suffering a concussion on the second day of training camp, is trying a new approach to get better. Hecht visited a chiropractor Friday, one day after again experiencing headaches. “He adjusted me, and I’ll see how that goes,” Hecht said. “It takes away some of the stiffness of my neck and some of the discomfort I have back there that might cause the headaches. We’re trying to take every step and every measure to make me feel better.”

Hecht sounds like he may have issues with his neck. Don't know if that's on top of the concussion or if that's the actual injury.

Mildly concerning that they don't have him seeing additional specialists after Connolly's jaw issue that was nearly a season missed due to symptomology rather than actual substance.

That's what I was thinking. Sounds like it could be a similar kind of situation.
