Upgrades to Sutton, Peckham and maybe Barker for next year.

Too early but I think one of our draft picks may make it next year which leaves room for at least 1 FA d-man.

If Potter goes the length of the season playing well, it would sting if he didn't sign here. As a player with only one real NHL season under his belt, not matter how well he plays this year he should be a good value.

Peckham is still young and is going to get better. He probably takes Sutton's spot and Petry probably takes Barker's spot... If Potter stays, that's 6 dmen...

I never looked, but is there anyone that maybe we acquire from a cash strapped team at the deadline? Someone that we give up a Plante/O'Marra for so that a team can save a mil and we can give someone a trial run?

That would sting and it could happen. Guys like him have to take the money while it's being offered to him. Getting 300k more elsewhere is huge to a guy like Potter.

I can't quite recall but I don't remember Hejda running out and signing with Columbus right on July 1. It was only after the whole Heatley crap, that he took that deal. I don't think our management team is going big game hunting like that anymore and pay no attention to other important matters.

Sure guys like Potter have to be aware of the market and how much they can make, but I think at the same time they are also aware of the team that gave them a chance. Afterall, Potter could run out and sign with a team that ends up like the Rangers and then were is he. He spent how many years trying to get a chance there and didn't get one. Now he finally found a team that is working out. If he's comfortable with the room + Renney, I think that would give us an advantage - maybe a small one but still an advantage.

What did Khabibulin say about Sutton.... he boxes guys out and doesn't let them screen or get rebounds.... that's something that isn't frequently identified as a skill or an ability and is likely under-appreciated by the average fan. Could turn out to be huge to our PK..... Khabby obviously appreciates it. I think we're too quick to write off Sutton yet. Lets just be happy we have options on D.

That's a crazy crop of D-men. Be silly to not try and sign one of them, lotta quality guys out there. Wouldn't necessarily have to be Suter, but someone like Coburn would be really nice.
