What a joke...

After that, people continue to tell me that a tough guy is a waste of roster spot ???

Why are people reacting?

1-Plex plays D on the PP
2-Weber has played F
3-Emelin was benched last night
4-We play a defensive system with 4 Ds in Montreal specifically because of their offensive abilities (Weber, Spacek, Subban, Diaz)

Nothing seems to be off the table right now.

I'm assuming Emelin is just filling a spot in practice, because he doesn't have a defensive partner and maxpac's spot is vacant.

But if not... ohhh lawd

Hockey is a fairly simple sport. Emelin is a gritty player who has a decent vision and a decent wrist/slap shot. I'm sure he can make something happen. You know he'll be responsible defensively, so everything else is gravy.
That's the point though... It's quite a complicated sport, about angles, chemistry and balance. Furthermore, it's a game based on one's instincts, as quite often the game is moving so fast that you dont have the benefit of thought.

If this is a beer league, no problem. But the habs also say prices per seat can range from 90-200 bucks EASY.

I dont think it's unfair to say that if a fan such as myself, can see the same issues, year in, year out... One should expect that Gauthier and Co. should have been able to see it too?

Problem is, we've been icing the same anemic team for the better part of a decade. Just as they know this city when they are losing. They MUST have realized this would get MORE people talking negatively about the team.

It seriously looks like they set themselves up for failure at times...

Did I say doomed forever?

You bring the guy over who's played D all his career.
He doesn't speak English (or very little) from what I understand.
He's still getting used to the North American game.
Martin has played D as a F many times before.

Why not put Weber in Max's spot for practice then? He's played there before.

I don't think people are overreacting, I think people are stating their opinion on how stupid it is to put him there...practice or not.

You'd really be shocked to see him playing F tomorrow night? Wouldn't surprise me at all, with Martin's history...and if he does, it's stupid.

First it's only practice, being on D need more communication than at forward so I'm not sure about your comment on language. Weber has been our best defenseman in the last two games and you want him to play at forward ? You don't double shift a forward for a practice and Emelin didn't have any D partner. Perhaps if he experience how a forward play in the NA game he will understand more how to play in the D zone here. Yeah Martin played some D at forward and I don't think any of them died. Look at Weber he started the season there and was our best defenseman in the last two games.

Oh calm down people.

He's clearly down a healthy body and had to have him fill in somewhere. I am ASSUMING they recall someone before the next game.

If they don't, I retract this and join the facepalm brigade.

People should read the comments before posting. You don't look very intelligent when it's already noted he's there as a replacement for pacioretty just for this practice. I'm not sure why this thread is even open. It just gives wrong message.

Even if it was just for practice, I'd rather see Emelin on a 3rd/4th line than a guy like Palushaj. Showed flashes in a few rushes earlier this season

Assuming of course that he'd get the green light to start hitting people again...

If he's playing on the 4th line next game I'll have lost all hope for this year.

Actually I'd be kinda intrigued to see how he does. He's obviously being told to not go on the offensive too much and he's shown on a couple occasion he's like to carry the puck and even go down low on the O-zone. Who knows, but I know I rather have him 4th line than benched.

So Emelin is a better option than anyone else in Hamilton? ...(hoping it was just for practice)

The house is on fire. We don't need no water. Let the mofo burn.

I understand that it's just practice. If it was Diaz or Weber I really wouldn't see it as a big deal (and I understand they both have shown more offensive flair than Alexei so far).

What worries me the most is that Emelin is a KHL all-star D-man. I think that putting him at forward is slightly disrespectful considering he took a risk of leaving a comfortable situation to try his chance at the NHL level. And I actually think he brings something interesting to this line-up even if it's clear he's still getting familiar with the NA play.

All in all, I don't think that trying him out at forward – even if it's just for practising – is a great strategic move considering he probably still has the KHL in mind, especially after being a healthy scratch.

I agree. I can't imagine how frustrated Emelin must be. Going from a Top 5 defenseman in the KHL to a healthy scratch in a team with a decimated defense. Worse is that the 6'7'' pylon is playing over Emelin.

If he just storms out to the KHL mid-season, I won't even blame him.

Our 3 next games : Flyers, Bruins, Bruins. Instead of playing Emelin on the wing, we should recall Conboy or Schultz !

That's what people were saying when Carbo put OB at forward during practice.

Well it turned out that he actually played forward the next game so you can never know. A desperate coach can pull some of the weirdest moves.

I have no idea why he wasn't on D last night. IMO, having Weber and Diaz is a waste. Emelin brings something a little different to the table.

We should get an available goon like Ivanans, put Henry and Emelin in the lineup, recall Conboy, Schultz, plus White when he will come back, trade for Neil and start ruining others teams season if our is ruined

Since Gomez, Pacioretty and White are hurts.

Cammalleri-Plekanec-Cole
Kostitsyn-Eller-Gionta
Moen-Desharnais-Neil
Schultz-Nokelainen-Conboy
Darche, Ivanans

Gorges-Subban
Henry-Weber
Spacek-Emelin
Gill, Diaz

Tank and morals victories !!!
