how does this trade effect the AHL Veteran rule, wildcat, if Stafford was the veteran exempt player, Hamilton cannot use their veteran exemption this year?
reminder, Pirates make their 1st trip to Mile One Centre since the relocation of the Leafs to Toronto, as they play the former Manitoba franchise, now the St. John's Ice Caps at 6pm EDT (NFD/Labrador is a hour and a half ahead of EDT)

Hollweg has been suspended one game for a hit to the head in Saturday's game against the P-Bruins.... He was originally only assessed a two minute minor, but the P-Bruins sent it into the league for supplemental action.

He will miss tonight's game vs. St. John's.
u-g-l-y describes this contest, as Portland has been targeted by the refs to the tune of 3 5 on 3's, a delay of game for intentionally knocking the net off its stanchions;
Highlight is a Chipchura 5 on 3 PP (2), from Tyler Eckford....

Penalties once again plagued the Portland Pirates.
The Pirates gave up 11 power play opportunities to the St. John’s IceCaps en-route to their third straight loss, 5-1, before 6,247 at Mile One Arena in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

I was sitting in the corner where Hollweg made the hit. Hollweg's an intense competitor, but noticeably bouncing a guy's head off the glass in 2011's hockey environment is just stupid.
It's an especially bad play for a veteran on a young team, your team is losing and there's less than 8 minutes to go.
Gongalsky suspended for his flagrant elbow in the same game as Hollweg's transgression, that got him suspended last night.... this is 2 gms for Gongalsky.....
on a related note: Both of Portland's pro franchises have now lost their founder.... just as the stunning and untimely death of Tom Ebright was in 1997 to the Pirates' stability....the Sea Dogs learned and are sad to inform their fans, that their founder, Daniel B. Burke, has passed is Rye, NY @ the age of 82..... Burke, as many recalled, oversaw the transition of ABC into the Disney fold before being granted the Sea Dogs in 1994 (also why the Eastern League HAS also set up shop here in Portland).

It was touch-and-go at times for the Portland Pirates on Wednesday night.
In a game that had an eerily similar feel to Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to the St. John’s IceCaps, the Pirates responded with four unanswered goals in the third period to earn a 5-2 victory before a sell-out crowd of 6,394 at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Portland, ME – This was about as ugly of a loss that the Portland Pirates have endured this season.
To make matters worse it was on home ice where the Pirates have lost four straight games as the Manchester Monarchs scored twice in the first period and added three goals in the third period for a 5-2 victory before a sellout crowd (6,749) at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
