Players that could be had:
Langkow (hes a bust, just floats)
Reinprecht
Nilson
Simon
Wiemer
Ference
Montador

Your best hope would be to take a salary dump. Those players aren't going to get you a legit #1 center but I'm sure the Islanders would be willling to dump Yashin. Also, their have been rumblings that Fedorov may be available.

The mentioned list of players should also include our first overall draft pick, that really spices things up

I don't think so. Unless it is a FORSURE top 10 pick than it would have alot mroe value but if the Flames pick up a #1 center, I would expect the value of the 1st round pick to drop.

I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't think to expand it as far as the others you mentioned.

So you want two of our top five defencemen and the one UFA acquisition who's actually played well... for a slumping Zhamnov and two guys that have been so pathetic that most of Boston would be for lynching them publicly?

Darryl Sutter is not Mike Milbury. This is garbage.

As far as Phaneuf is concerned, unless the return is Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin, he isn't going anywhere.

Zhamnov isn't "slumping". You need to actually be playing to be "slumping".

Easy now dog Im a big Bergeron fan, and think Phaneuf for Bergeron would be a good equal trade. It would never happen, but man Bergeron would be hot centering Iggy on the #1 line.

As I said already - because Phoenix's centers are struggling to establish themselves and Langkow had great chemistry with Nagy who is slumping badly.

I agree that Pittsburgh needs help on D but they won't be giving up a top line centre (Lemieux, Malone, Crosby).
They are useful players, but there really isn't a big trade market for them (at least not one that will bring you a legit 1st line player). You could take just about any team and package a similar FWD and Dman and that's just not going to get you a stud offensive player. Is Nilson + Ferrence really any better than Bulis + Rivet or Petrovicky + Hnidy or Axellson + Gill or Lukowich + Bates etc etc. If packages like that got you top line scoring wingers some of those teams would be making those deals.

Calgary doesn't make this deal, but it's really not a bad offer. Boynton is better than Dion right now, and is still fairly young himself, and Zhamnov is arguably better than Reinprecht. Jurcina is a half-decent prospect. That Flames would be better this year if they made the deal, but with Dion's top end it wouldn't make sense to do it.

Patrice has just as much potential as Dion, if not more....
I think he'll have more goals than Thornton this year....

I'm not so sure you would find many people that would trade Phanuef for Boynton...i know wouldn't.

I wouldn't trade Dion for Boynton either and I didn't say Calgary would or should. However if I were playing a game THIS year I'd rather have Boynton.

Can you explain WHY?

Has Boynton been better than Dion THIS year in your opinion,or are you thinking he will be better later in the season?

Dion has been the Flames best Dman almost ever game this season so far on a team with some pretty good D talent.

Stats/hits and defensive play all point to Dion be better NOW...i could be missing something though
