I agree, he is probably worth more to the team than he is worth in a trade.

AK is the type of big body physical player that we need more of. Sure he is streaky and has his faults, but he actually hits, goes to the front of the net and brings some physicality to the lineup.

Trading him would be a huge mistake unless we can get an overpayment, which I highly doubt.

We should be looking at trading guys like Cammy, Gorges, Spacek, Gill, Gomez (no surprise there).

Means nothing.

If there's a firing, it will come from Geoff Molson.

Yes absolutely i would make that deal, although i would think the Habs would have to add to get that deal done.

We all know that the habs are really bad managing their assets. Over the years numerous bad moves had been made, from bad drafting in the first rounds, to bad development of the youth they had + atrocious trades or giveaways of those same youth.

We are stuck with a core of underachiving, mostly small forwards signed on big, long contracts. And we have players just reaching their prime without contracts like A.K. and Gorges + some RFA's that's gonna need attention in a near future: Price and PK.

I won't go one saying we should have drafted a number of different players back in 2004 but the fact we still have this guy on our team and we pay him more and more money each time his contract is up is a effin joke.
Oh man. 70 points basically equals a top 20 scorer in the NHL. For the most part, these are 6mil/yr players:

2010-2011 Points
1. Daniel Sedin-VAN 104
2. Martin St. Louis-TBL 99
3. Corey Perry-ANA 98
4. Henrik Sedin-VAN 94
5. Steven Stamkos-TBL 91
6. Jarome Iginla-CGY 86
7. Alex Ovechkin-WSH 85
8. Henrik Zetterberg-DET 80
Teemu Selanne-ANA 80
10. Brad Richards-DAL 77
11. Claude Giroux-PHI 76
Ryan Getzlaf-ANA 76
Eric Staal-CAR 76
Jonathan Toews-CHI 76
15. Thomas Vanek-BUF 73
Loui Eriksson-DAL 73
Patrick Kane-CHI 73
Ryan Kesler-VAN 73
Anze Kopitar-LAK 73
Patrick Marleau-SJS 73

This is Kostitsyn's fourth season making 3.25mil.

He's basically been on the best line for the last two weeks. With Desh/Max and then with Eller/Moen. His chemistry with Eller alone should be reason enough to keep him around. Of course he goes on slumps, but with Max and Gomez out, trading away a forward without much value isn't going to help things. They'd probably get a player a little better than what's his name they got for SK.

Kostitsyn for Wilson? I'd do it right away. Wilson has 1st line centerman potential and he could be a big centerman for us in Montreal. I doubt Nashville will do it though..

3.5millions for 70pts?

I think someone is still playing NHL95

If Kostitsyn is an overpayed bum for scoring 45-50 pts at 3.25, I wonder what that means for Plekanec, Gomez, Gionta, Cammalleri, Cole, etc.

leBrun and Custance both said yesterday the Habs were agressively shopping for defense. Custance even said the Leafs were on of the teams they were talking to. Something has to give soon.

For the love of god they better not be trading with the Leafs, unless what is going the other way is a mid-round pick.

I'd laugh if we traded a 2nd for Liles, it would be like watching a re-run.

Well at least they see the need.

I always thought PG's plan was to build and develop forward depth this season and revamp the D for next season, keeping Subban, Markov, Gorges and getting rid of the aging vets like Spacek and Gill. It would explain why he didn't want to give Hammer his two years. At season's end, we'd have the money to shop and spare assets to trade.

I'd have been down with that.

Except Markov's prolonged absence coupled with Spacek and Campoli's injuries have put this team in deeper trouble than what he had anticipated. He probably feels the need to accelerate things.

I don't want to give up AK though unless its for someone significant and would be part of our core going forward. If it's for patchwork, I'd be extremely disappointed.

I'd think they would want someone with a little more experience than Gunnarsson, probably something in the mold of a hamrlik type player.

Unless spacek steps it up..

Out of leafs "available" dmen. I would take Komisarek over the others.

His best years were in Montreal maybe he could get his groove back. Of course salary needs to go the other way.

Komisarek & 4th/2nd if kostitsyn resigns for Kostitsyn

I would trade Cammalleri way before Kostitsyn. The guy is a poison in the locker room IMO..he has a limited NTC so he is tradable IMO..

Can't score goals.

Trade a goal scorer.

Brilliant!

I don't understand how everyone here knows AK is unhappy...I know what was said over the summer, but his body language has been much better this season than Cammy or even Gionta..

Reading body language can be a dangerous game. It can lead you to think that Price is "calm, cool, and collected" or "aloof, doesn't care" depending on your frame of mind.

I agree but the point stands that it's speculation either way. There's no way of knowing where AK stands besides one interview given in another language. You don't hear reports of him acting like his brother.

If anything he's been lucky to have some stability playing with Eller lately while the rest of the forwards get shfited around randomly.

I think the biggest thing for him is getting off of Plekanec line. Not because Plekanec and Cammalleri are horrible linemates but he's facing easier opposition than he has the last two or three seasons. It's easier to look good against 2nd/3rd lines and 2nd/3rd defense pairing than it is against the #1s Plekanec is matched up against.
