Looking back at Halak trade now

A sensational performance against the Philadelphia Flyers the other night appears to have the St. Louis Blues leaning toward Brian Elliott as starting goalie over Jaroslav Halak
Blues coach Davis Payne wouldn't say for sure but his remarks pointed toward Elliott remaining in net after running his record to 3-0 Saturday. "We haven't announced yet, but it was another good solid performance," said Payne, referring to Elliott's 34-save effort in Saturday's 4-2 win over Philadelphia. Asked what Elliott has done for the Blues, Payne said: "Timely saves are something that saves your hockey team. In the third period (Saturday), we knew we were going to face some pressure from Philly. We got ourselves a little backed off a little deeper than we would like (and) he was huge. He made two big saves, especially the one on (Claude) Giroux right between the hash marks." Halak's last outing was last Tuesday, when he was replaced by Elliott early in the third period with the Blues trailing 4-0 in what finished as a 5-0 loss.

And we all know its definitely not because Elliot is that good

I liked the trade then (liked maybe too strong, saw it as a necessary evil I guess is better way to put it) and like it even more now that Eller is starting to look like a Top 6 player

This is why goalies have so little value. One day they're on top of the world, next not so much. That's why a team like the Devils struck the jackpot when they got Brodeur. Consistency is the name of the game.

Not really fair to Halak to get on his back as soon as he struggles. Take a look at Price's numbers this year - nothing glorious but not indicative of his true talent or his play so far either.

Halak isn't as good as the goalie we saw during our ECF, but he's not bad enough to lose his job to Brian Elliott either. The truth, as always, is somewhere in the middle.

Its funny because I'm sure if we won last night vs. the Panthers with Budaj in goal that someone would have posted something Price/Halak related going against the trade...

I was thinking the same thing. Then in a week from now if Eller is like 3gp 0g 0a -4 and Halak has 4gp 1.35gaa 97.4% and 1 shutout people will say the opposite

hfboards being hfboards.

Just reading the Cammalleri thread has me shaking my head. Imagine if he scored a beauty against us like he scored on Toronto the other night.

Anyone have any idea?

This 03 draft is a freaking nightmare for the Habs.. especially with all the talent that was available. Although, it was Timmins and co. first draft, maybe they were unprepared.
The first two rounds brought us A.K + Urquhart.... OUCH !

2006 is also un dumb one... Fischer instead of Giroux... RE-OUCH !

That's why PG traded him and not Price.

Why are you guys doing this ? I am so confused. You all know it's not goaltending the problem, get your faces out of the sand. We know where the problem is. It just has to be rectified.

The Loss of Marc-Andre Bergeron

Watching the Tampa game right now and man is MAB patient out there. When you look at our powerplay, all of our defenseman, particularly Subban simply rush the puck. MAB looks around, waits and thinks the game. Obviously when we let him go and signed Markov we knew Marky is a similar player, and arguably a better player. However, he is not here and we really see it in our transition game and our powerplay. So what are our options for the present? Diaz is probably our best option in terms of a patient, thinking defender. But he is inexperienced. The habs need a top four physical defenseman and we need an intelligent defender as well.

Also MAB 10 points in 9 games. Chew on that guys.

There are so many roster moves that I think twice about. Letting MAB go is not one of them.

Agree PK is way over rated. Watch him implode in a hockey market like Montreal...just like Price is doing this year.

Fire Gauthier.
Fire Carrier.

Horrible management and horrific player evaluation. The director of pro scouting should be fired. When he's on, Bergeron is easily a top 5 offensive defensemen in the league. Gauthier should have realized that and given him a contract equivalent to Markov.

Case in point: Marc-André already has 2 more goals and 10 more points than our superstar defenseman Andrei Markov. Although he's -1, it's not his fault, his partner has been terrible. Put him with a guy like Hal Gill and Bergeron will flourish.

**** this team.

(Did I do it right?)

The loss of Mathieu Schneider

The guy was awesome and saved the 2009-2010 season from complete disaster by giving a good help at boosting the PP, scoring key goals so the Habs made the playoff, plus he was playing top 4. I think loosing him was a big mistake, because the guy could have finished his career has a Habs, where he started. They should sign him to save the season.
