Yup, that's the gist of Exklund's latest dung.

If the rumor that the big name being shopped is MAF were true scouts from 18 teams (as widely reported) would be at WBS rather than watching the Pens play. There is almost assuredly nothing to this rumor. It makes no sense for either team. And the actions of the scouts, who they are watching, makes this rumor less than plausable.

Most fans have been extremely happy with lalime so far. He has actually kept us in games. There is no truth to this rumor.

While I dislike Eklund's rumors, he never identified what players would be going the other way if MAF got dealt to STL. I can see some scenario's where MAF could get dealt, but it would take one of Brewer, Jackman, or Backman as the centerpiece going the other way. That's a major difference than the "Lalime + 5/6 d-man" as the STL poster proposed.

Eklund is probably right the Blues are interesting in MAF, so is 90% of teams in the NHL. But thats doesn't mean Pitts will trade him.

Actually, he never really said much at all. Which makes it pretty clear to me that the rumor is nothing.

That's wrong Eric Brewer will be an UFA, he already reached the 7 years experience in the NHL before the lockout

BTW.

RDS just spent 5 minutes talking about this rumour. I wonder if they read EKLUND too...

There are such things as negative trade value

The Blues would be stupid to take Boughner, they have Lynch (from the Pronger) in their system that is waiting to get called up.

We've had this debate - Brewer said he'd still be an RFA when he signed his QO. I'll dig later to get a definitive, final answer on this.

It is true that Brewer has played 6 season in the NHL(plus the lockout year putting him at 7); BUT in Brewer's 2nd season he only played 26 games. According to the CBA that season doesn't count as an accrued season which puts his total at 7 when you figure in the lockout season; 1 year short of UFA eligibilty. He is an RFA.

The only one that would benefit from a trade would be Patrick Lalime.
The poor guy has been left out to dry night in, night out ....

the lockout season did count as a season, meaning he could be an UFA with his 7 years experience

Eric Brewer's games played by season:

(1) 1998-1999 NYI 63
(-) 1999-2000 NYI 26
(2) 2000-2001 EDM 77
(3) 2001-2002 EDM 81
(4) 2002-2003 EDM 80
(5) 2003-2004 EDM 77
(6) 2004-2005 (Lockout)
(7) 2005-2006 STL 11

If the 99-00 season doesn't count, and the lockout year does count, this season will be his 7th.

Except that next year you need to have 8 accrued seasons to be a UFA( see the CBA Faq on TSN).

For purposes of qualifying for unrestricted free agency, the 2004-05 cancelled season will be counted as a year of accrued service.

To simplify:
A player needs to have 4 accrued seasons to be a RFA in each year of the CBA.

In 06-07 you need to be 29 to reach Group III UFA status or have 8 accrued season to be a Group IV RFA(can opt for UFA status or remain a RFA).

Again; Brewer will be an RFA. If the 99-00 season doesn't count as an accrued season he will be Group II; if it does he will be Group IV. Either way: he is an RFA and according to his quotes earlier in the year(that he will be a RFA and wants to sign a long term deal with the Blues) will not opt for UFA status if he is Group IV.
