Theoretically Trading Lundqvist

Obviously nothing to take seriously, but say we put Hank on the market. What kind of realistic trade offers might we get? I've always wondered. In my opinion he is the best goalie on the planet right now. Would be interesting to try to see what teams might give up for a player of this caliber.

Honestly not as much as you might think. It seems goalies don't really do that good trade-wise since you can get a decent goalie who can play almost as good for way cheaper. I also think teams don't usually trade for a goalie unless he's an upcoming UFA.

Most expensive cap hit in the league for a goalie - 3 years left on his contract.

Goalies don't generally fetch a large package on the market...when does a goalie of Lundqvist's caliber get traded in the prime of their career, even? Only one I can think of is Roy, and that was different circumstances.

The only way Lundqvist is leaving is if he demands to leave. And I don't see that happening.

Anyway, the Rangers would not get equal value.

I don't see how trading a top 5 goalie in the world can possibly help your team no matter who is coming back on the other end.

How is it the "stupidest" post of all-time? The first word in the title was THEORETICALLY. He wants to know what we would get for him, not that he wants us to trade him.

Never say never. He may one day get tired of playing for a mediocre team. Stranger things have happened in sports.

Some people are just so touchy about Rangers players especially Hank. Truth is there may come a time when it might make sense either for him or for the team.

Fortunately for us the team will likely be playing its best hockey in recent years just as his contract is winding down.

We would never get back what Henke is worth.

Even for Roy, the world knew he was going to be traded. And with that said, all he was able to bring back to Montreal was quantity. No part of the Roy trade really improved the Canadiens, it was Martin Rucinsky, Andrei Kovalenko, Jocelyn Thibault, and maybe another part or two that I just can't think of. Even one of the best goalies in history couldn't garner much. Lundqvist wouldn't bring back enough to satisfy the Rangers.

Just to clear things up, I don't want Hank traded. I'd probably cry. But I was just wondering how a trade involving him might look. And you never know when he'll realize he simply wont win a Cup with the Rangers.

You wouldn't have to clear things up if people took the time to read. That's a lot to ask these days. Hypothetical questions are risky.

Not everyone misunderstands what you're saying. You were pretty clear to me from the get go.

in the world of NHL 2012...
and suspending the concept of reality...

first you need to get yourself a bonafide #1 starter in net to replace him. You probably would want to get a d-man who can really help our PP

Quick + J.Johnson...
i dunno what else would go into such an insanely hypothetical trade.

Wouldnt do this in a million years. I dont think you guys realize yet that Lunquist is one of the greatest goalies of all time. By far th eall time best Ranger goalie. To trade him would be pure stupitity

Hehe...stupitity!

I dunno man. I've never really been a huge Lundqvist guy. I wouldn't mind letting him go and seeing what we have in Biron. The guy played very well in Winnipeg. I think he should be the starter from now on.

So now theoretical discussions are stupid? Really? You may want to rethink that.
