no.

the REAL chant is:

let's go fly-ERS <--emphasis on the 'ERS'

not

let's go fly-ers
[where there is no emphasis on anything]

and not

let's go FLY-ers
[where there is emphasis on 'FLY']

I'm 22, and I agree with the OP, how hard is it to chant with the organ?

I don't think one person was doing it "right" at the game last night.

What can you do?

I predict 10 years from now we will all look back at this and be able to remember exactly where we were, what we were doing and what we were wearing on this day. We'll be able to ask each other "where were you when the world stopped turning?" "where were you when we found out we were doing the chant wrong?".

Always remember.

could be worse. Could be caps or pens fans. Trying to drag out one syllable into a two syllable chant or desperately trying to shorten the whole thing and not make it sound like ****.

pens fans get a nice "let's go pens" going during the playoffs. there's isn't musical at all, though. just a yelled chant. the melody of our chant gets mixed up with the rangers chant. not on purpose, people are just kinda tone-deaf. oh well, life goes on.

What I'm saying is, though I'm relatively young, I still respect and value tradition, and the people who do it wrong don't care about tradition, which is sad, given how much this team values lore.

The "let's go Phillies" chant during the home baseball games at CBP. Can you bat heads get something original? The Eagles fans have. Don't steal from us Flyers fans. Although it WAS in bad taste when the pre-2008 Phils crowd use to break out in an E-A-G-L-E-S chant when the team was sukin'--just sayin'

They are doing it WRONG. They are doing the god damn Rangers chant. They do it at every stinking game and it drives me crazy.

It all starts with some moron trying to get everybody going by screaming "LET'S GO FLYERS!!!" like he's at a damn Rangers game.

Yes it is important. You don't care because you're from Canada somewhere and you've never been to a Flyers game.

what's worse is when stupid people try to act smart by saying stupid things like "irregardless" and "agreeance"

and I hate it when people say things like "be that as it may" or "insofar as" or "by no means"

I have a co-worker who is a simpleton but doesn't know it. He says these things constantly. Everything he says has some kind of retarded qualifier attached to it... annoys the hell out of me. Makes me fight at mens league hockey on Tuesdays at 11pm when everybody has to work the next day... just kidding I'm not that guy.

There should be a board with instructions on how to chant. Like the instruction board outside of Pat's Steaks.
"How to do a Flyer's Chant."
Let people try to get it right before they go to their seats.
"Practice all of the above steps while you're waiting in line. If you make a mistake... DONT DO THE CHANT."

Just please don't suggest there be one like the Geno's Steaks sign... I cannot go through another thread around that.

I thought this was going to be about suggesting new chants.

Can we make it about new chants?

A problem might be that is how people generally chant things, or at least that's how I do it. If it makes people feel better though I've only been to one Flyers home game.

Yep. It might be "wrong" but it isn't a Rangers chant...it's the "Let's go ______" chant for almost every team with a two syllable name in every sport.

You forgot:

"That being said"
"It goes without saying" (then why are you saying it?)
"To be honest with you" (aren't you ALWAYS honest with me?)
"It is what it is"
"Freakin' awesome!"

I like to make fun of those who yell "shoot" -- especially when there is no shot close to be one that can/should betaken... only the player has received the puck -- by yelling "shoot' myself when the a player has the puck behind their own net (clear across the rink) or is at their own blue-line skating up ice... Maybe some day those idiots who yell that will realize.

One time I personally had the opportunity to ask Sami Kapanen what he thought of people yelling that while he was on the ice... He basically said that he hated it and felt like looking in the stands and yelling "Shut the **** up"... or just yelling back at the fans... He said IIRC he has been told what to do from the coaches and directed from the bench and didn't need to hear anything from the stands... That was a very, very much paraphrased recount from memory of years back... but he was laughing and let it be known how silly he felt they people were.
