I'm coming to Buffalo...

hello!

I'm heading down to Buffalo from Hamilton with some friends for next Friday's game against Montreal and since I've never been I was hoping you could answer some questions of mine...

I was just wondering if you guys could tell me of some good spots around the arena to get food and drinks before the game starts. We'll have some time to kill before the game so we're looking for a good place to get some decent food before game time. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

We're sitting 10 rows up behind the penalty box so hopefully the seats are nice at HSBC and it's a really entertaining game.(with the Habs coming out victorious of course...

The Pearl Street Brewery on Pearl St is a pretty good place to eat and drink before a game. Usually is pretty busy on game nights and especially on friday night. Food is pretty good there, but I really like the home brews. I'd recommed the seasonal beer (if they have it), Lord Stanleys Ale. It's like 9.5% alcohol but its very tasty.

Some friends of mine will be going to the game and most likely to Pearl St after the game.

I recommend the Little Harlem Hotel on Ellicot St.

There is nothing adjacent to the arena. Pearl Street is the closest place to go. Assuming you have the time to go five minutes further away, I'd recommend heading over to the Chippewa St. area. There are a number of places to go, you've got D'Arcy McGee's, Brinks, Laughlins and TGI Friday's. If you are in a hurry, Prima Pizza is there as well.

Depends on what you like. City Grille is over on Main by the Seneca St. "subway" stop. Most of the places on Chippewa are a short jump on the train down to the rink. There are a few more restaurants in the Theatre District if you are willing to throw down some decent coin for a meal.

I would say to go to the cobblestone bar and grill. It is on the street behind the arena and to the left of it. It is a very short walk. You can actually even park in the bars parking lot for $8. thats where i always park.

Yeah, I recommend Pearl St., and plan on giving yourself plenty of time, there's always a good game night crowd, especially on a Friday.

I'm a big fan of the Swannie House. It's a 100+ year old neighborhood bar that is close to the arena. The food is excellent (Pub grub) and cheap. (So is the beer.)

It's on the corner of Ohio and Michigan. You can walk from the arena. Take the street behind it, until you get to Michigan. Hang a right. (You can see it from that corner.)

Plus the smell of Cheerios will be the strongest, it's across the street from General Mills.

Try the Anchor Bar (www.buffalowings.com)on Main St. They invented chicken wings(or so they claim) great wings, its like 10 minutes from the rink. I must try for anyone who likes wings.

Perhaps directing that question to the Sabres sales and marketing dept. or going to client services prior to the game will get you some satisfaction.

Curiousity from someone nowhere near the border:

doubleyou tee eff is Canadian at par? Some US/Canada trade agreement, an NHL thing, a Sabres thing?

Where one dollar Canadian is at par with one dollar US rather than at some rate of exchange. At the moment, that's about a 17 cent bump for our friends in So. Ontario.

Ah, cool -- thanks. I figured it was something like that.

Maybe the Canadiens can balance the scales for us by saying that .83 of a save is a whole save?
