I wonder if he will take assistant coach for today, ala Gainey..

If the PC is just about Pearn getting fired then this smells like it was from above Gauthier. Wasn't Gauthier called out recently for not talking to the media enough? Now all of a sudden 30 mins before game-time he is having a PC?

This press conference will be to explain how the Habs are rearranging the deck chairs after Pearn's firing.

I do see the rationale of doing it before the game: it jolts the players and "motivates" them to have a good performance (although, let's be honest, everyone on this team is acutely aware of the situation, and no amount of external motivation is going to change anything).

Go Habs Go
I bet it will start with PG briefly talking about Pearn being let go and then he'll preach about how much confidence the organization still as in JM to get the job done despite the slow start, blah, blah, blah...

That's something absolutely true. These guys are competitors and they're well paid to do their jobs. They know it's not working well for them right now and they don't need any extra kick in the ass to realize it. They're not morons, they're professionals.

1. Gauthier thanks Pearn publicly.

2. Explains action had to be taken, blames special teams.

3. Talks about how the team will thrive going forward.

4. Who will be replacing Pearn.

5. Where do the Habs go from there and where he predicts them to be at season's end.

That should sum up the PC.

For your info, here's Dany Dubé's take on this (quoting myself from another thread) :

Quote:
Martin McGuire (98,5 sport, pregame show) is saying that this morning, Pearn was still on the ice for the practice.

So something must have happen during the day.

Dany Dubé suggests it might be either conflicts in the coaching staff or more probably players who asked for his departure.

He says Randy Ladouceur, who was the D coach in Hamilton, will probably take his place.

Dany Dubé also saying that Pearn and Muller never had good communication. He suggests that this problem might have continued with the Randys, singling Pearn as the source of the problem.

#habs Gauthier says: "markov pushed a little too hard. He's made a lot of progress" translated

8-12 months according to Gauthier on total rehab for Markov. We're in month 11...
