Novokuznetsk city dump burns year-round

One aspect of Zinovjev's hometown that he likely doesn't miss is the stinky, burning city dump:

"[Novokuznetsk central city] dump burns
15-10-2003 05:50

[Novokuznetsk's residents] here narrower several days perceive the unpleasant smell of smoke.Fire on the central dump again became reason. It burns the year round, but periodically as, for example, now, situation is peaked.

The state of dump follow the colleagues of the enterprise Of promtrans. In the daytime they succeed in pacifying fire/light, and the at night glowing rubbish again burns. To extinguish dump finally under such conditions is practically impossible.Technology is not sufficient moreover.Of three existing/available bulldozers today in running order only one.To ensure the liquidation of fire with such forces is impossible, indeed the thickness of debris layer is more than hundred meters, and the area of the dump - of almost twenty hectares."

45 Photos of Zinovjev's hometown, Novokuznetsk

A picture of the city dump doesn't do the place justice, so here's a link to a photo gallery of Zino's hometown in Siberia:

Unfortunately, the very last picture illustrates the pollution problems that a city with smelters faces...
