Nov. 23 update: Schenn will play with Adirondack (had a broken left foot)

Quote:
Rinaldo, Gustafsson going to Philly, apparently.

I would assume that Matt Walker is being sent down to make this happen. His salary covers Gus' $900K and Rinaldo's $544,444.

Schenn broke his foot:

It has to be Walker. His salary covers both of these guys. Makes the most sense

He's still on the cap if he's sent down...

I thought we determined that the 35+ rule only counts after the first year or something like that, like we can send him down this year and get him off the cap but he stays for next year no matter what. Someone posted that a couple weeks ago, don't remember who or where they got their info from. I like that better though.

Also I hope Rinaldo starts tonight. Deal with it.

From yesterday:

http://articles.philly.com/2011-10-2...eat-defensemen

Quote:
The Flyers have only about $21,000 in cap room, so they don't have many options. They could, however, get an extra defenseman if they send Walker ($1.7 million cap hit) back to Adirondack; he cleared waivers earlier this month and wouldn't have to clear again until after Nov. 4.

With Walker's cap hit off the books, the Flyers would have enough room to recall defensemen Oskars Bartulis ($600,000 cap hit) and Erik Gustaffson ($900,000) from the Phantoms.

Maybe Holmgren will surprise the hell out of us all and waive Shelley also along with sending Walker down

I figured it would be Gustafsson over Bartulis. The Phantoms have been sitting one defender a game on a rotation, and the only two defender who havent sit are Gustafsson and Marshall. Bartulis has been part of of healthy scratch cycle.

Wasn't aware of that. News to me but his salary isn't even enough to get Gustafsson up if he was waived.

I thought Rinaldo was going to be made into a penalty killer on the Phantoms. Has this been abandoned already?

Even though Walker sucks, ideally this would be Couturier being sent back to juniors. Not sure why we'd roll with two extra forwards and no defensemen.

I'm not sure if that is 100% true, I just remember someone on here talking about it at some point.

They have been spotting him on the PP, but I cant say I remember on the pk at all.

I think Broad Street Hockey had an article about it... I thought it was wrong though. You can look in their archive for it

Then this is pointless, and we're using cap space putting someone in the press box that should be playing.

Couturier salary doesnt equal the salary coming back up from the Phantoms so it can't just be him alone. I don't think its him. Walker or maybe they might have sent Schenn back down but thats also doubtful. I would bank on it being Walker, especially after his play last night

If this is just sending Walker down, or involves a trade, or involves Couturier going back to juniors, REGARDLESS it is a good move.

My biggest fear was no roster changes at all today.

I agree. I like Couturier, and he has definitely played well enough to stay up with the big club, but there is no need for him to here. He will develop just as well with another year in juniors, and Schenn should have no problem taking over his time on PK and ES. Walker's contract is too much for this team right now. A trade could be good, but I don't see it happening. I think Walker going to ADK is the most likely scenario.

Bartulis shouldn't even be in the conversation because I'm fairly certain he'd have to clear re-entry waivers. And who WOULDN'T wanta 300k 7th d-man? or 8th? or 9th?

No official word yet if Sean Couturier will stay in Philly. But #flyers now thinks that Brayden Schenn could be out for a few weeks.

If Nodl isn't ready to go yet, then they still need to have an extra body on hand at least.

This is a great move, as for Couturier I would like to see him stay up and center the 3rd line with Read and Jvr, I think he being wasted on the 4th line, and same with Read as a center, and in preseason Read and Couturier had really good chances.

And who do you think Gus would be paired with?
My first thought was Timonen, but I doubt they would put Gus on the first pair, so maybe Carle or Mez?
