Would you play Gill or Emelin?

If you were Jacques Martin, would you be ready to make Hal Gill a healthy scratch in order to play Emelin? What would be the consequences on team spirit? On overall performance on the ice?

Gill Diaz is a bad pairing, Gill s too slow and Diaz s not experienced enough to go run around.
And agreed with Spacek he had a good game tonight, he s been ok this season, much better than Gill at least who cost us 2-3 games already

Yes. Emelin is a young gritty KHL All-Star defenceman. He is our future, Gill isn't our future. Gill can sit to help the team, he gets tired and is not physical, Emelin can play physical. Shouldn't be an issue Gill got his 1,000th game he's not aiming at 2,000. Or, we can send Diaz down without waivers, right?

Gill speaks English so I take him. Communication is a big factor.

Gill actually plays the least of our defensemen and has the worst +/- on the team.

Unfortunately they need Gill for the PK. I'd sit Diaz for Emelin.

lol, diaz ? no.

Ideally Gill sits some games and rest for the playoffs.

if we miss the playoffs, than we trade him to a contender and get something back for him...

I can see teams being interested in his services come deadline

I would not be opposed to having Gill and Emelin rotate every other game. Emelin for experience. Gill for rest.

Gill is always crap at the start of every season, it just takes a while to get his big motor goin'. But yes, his icetime should be reduced until he starts playing better. He's also valuable on the PK even when he is playing bad.

No, he doesn't. He logs the least amount of all 6 guys playing tonight this season (Spacek has a smaller TOI, but he got hurt which is the reason).

Gorges, Subban, Diaz, and Weber get the most minutes up till this point.

Emelin could easily slide in as the #6. At least give him a chance because Gill hasn't been doing much to warrant his spot.

I'd alternate them to keep Gill fresh.

Exactly what I'd do. If one of them has an amazing game, give them an extra game until one of the two really pulls away.

Diaz's defense just isn't there yet. His coverage is pretty poor. Witness the goal Philly scored and the first second shift tonight.

Or witness the play when he dove across the net, making an amazing save, and saving the game for us?

He's still developing. And still getting used to the smaller rink. He's not a top defenseman right now, but he's holding his own as a Top-4 guy on a team with some injuries.

I would rotate them, Gill is slowing down and we don't really need him to play 82 games. Gill is a monster in the playoffs, rest him some games during the regular season

I said Spacek because coach can't help but overplay him in top 4 roles that he can't fill anymore.

Gill plays, no question in my mind. Not a bad thing to have to many capable Dmen. Can't wait for more competition once marky comes back!

He isn't terrible, but I'd still put him 7th in the rotation. If it was just even strength I'd take Gill out because he's been poor but when one of the rookie three is on the penalty kill the Habs run into trouble.

I can see how someone else could have an honest difference of opinion on this though.

Emelin instead of Weber or Diaz against teams like the Bruins. But JM wont change a thing next game.
