I would argue that Plekanec's passive defending in the neutral zone is much more effective than his forechecking for example. Cammalleri nor Gionta are that strong of forecheckers, Gionta is decent though, ect. However, when you have a smaller top 6 and you apply a two man forecheck, they are probably going to lose the majority of those battles. This allows the opposing team to break out with more room in the neutral zone, making our true weakness, our bad mobility in defenders stick out. The system Martin put into place was designed to protect that weakness, rather than expose it. It is no different than how he installs a strict collapse system in the defensive zone to exemplify that strength(ie shot blocking ability and long reach) on the flip side.

I would agree that the addition of Cole, and the emergence of Pacioretty, along with having Diaz, Weber, Subban, and Emelin(and Campoli was supposed to be part of this too) has given Martin an option of being a little more liberal on the forecheck in the right circumstances.
The only defender with below average mobility is Gill...Subban Weber Diaz and Emelin are all above averge.

The Bruins have a serious hangover, which is good to see...would be nice to see a little salt in the wound on Saturday, with a sweep of the home and home...

They dont have that big of a hangover. They are not as bad, but they are not really good either. A lotof people saw that last year.
People have no problem calling us average and yet we were battling the bruins fmor the division rigth up until the last month. Difference is we already were filled with key injuries. Losing maxpax set us back but we dfinitely gave them a nice run for their money. So, either they are good and so are we, or we are both average teams.

I have a confession. I am watching a disgracefully small amount of hockey this year. Between school and rugby, I haven't been a good Habs fan. I sincerely apologize. I miss my Habs (and racking up double-digit GDT posts). I missed Marchand and Subban FINALLY go at it!

Good work last night Habs land.

It would be nice to see the Bruins score some goals. Or even one.

The one we "scored" last night wasn't a show of talent by anymeans, it was a fluke and a deflection.

Oh well you win some you lose some and last night wasn't in the cards for Boston.

Good game, looking forward to tomorrow night.

Leaf fan here. I'm happy you guys put the Bruins in their place, forcing them to be dead last in the conference. Great job with the win to your Habs. The team deserves kudos especially for recovering from the Plekanec's fluky own goal. I hope you guys beat the Bruins on Saturday.

Taking a loss with grace is the mark of a mature, classy fan. Wish there were more like you, on both sides. Thanks!

I was kind of expecting Pacioretty to be in beast mode last night, didn't really happen. I hope he sticks it to them at the Bell Centre.

Reading the bRuins last few pages of the GDT is quite hilarious. So many of their fans are saying how Subban is a coward for fighting Marchand because he's a smaller player... News flash people, Marchand was the one that wouldn't let **** go.

Also I guess that makes Chara the biggest coward in the league when he fights other players + cheap shots people left and right...

He didn't get much ice-time last night because of all the PKs we had, plus I think they're just being precautious about his wrist.

The Bruins board can be a gong show at times...does anyone get the feeling that the B's will try to stir up crap in the Bell Centre early on Sat night? Looch the chick beater to get thrown out??

Expect Lucic and Horton to chase Subban around all Saturday. Same BS that happened after Pouliot *****-slapped Krejci when he bit off more than he could chew.

and I guess Boychuk is a hero when he took on noted goon Spacek - basically same size diff as Subban vs Big Nose.

Bruins fans are complete tools, most of them anyway

Overall was happy with the game, Price was amazing and seems to be finding his form again. Got to keep it up on Saturday at home then they get a nice 5 day rest and who knows maybe Markov will be back after that.

Don't waste time with the Bruins fans or on the Bruins board. They are not the sharper tools in the box. They still live in the 70's.
