Doan would now be that absolute ideal piece to round out that 2nd line.

Ok, I'm probably going to ripped for this one, but hear me out:

Mason Raymond and Kevin Conauten +/- Jordan Schroeder to St. Louis for TJ Oshie.

Reasoning: Oshie is _very_ inconsistent offensively. Yes, he has produced at a better PPG pace than Raymond, but he's injury prone. And like MayRay, he's a forward that always leaves you wanting more. He's also had work ethic issues and some immaturity issues. All that said, with Booth in the fold, this could be the change both players need to get going. I think MayRay could really benefit from having a burgeoning playmaker like Berglund feeding him passes - something he won't get here as Kesler is more of a shooter.

The Nucks need someone on the right side, and Raymond has been supplanted by Booth as a given. Well, at least, Booth's contract dictates that somewhat.

Currently, St.Louis is a .500 hockey club, and you just get the sense that they just don't have the push to become a consistent playoff team yet. Perron getting hurt changed their fate drastically, and I think that their LW position needs to be remedied as if Perron is a luxury. Organizational depth beyond him and Grachev seems too shallow also. And so, this might be the time to resolve that. By getting Stewart and having Tarasenko in the fold, their RW should be fine moving forward. So I think this deal makes sense to even out the wing positions for both teams - and a little extra thrown in to adjust for value. Thoughts?

From canuck perpective it would be a good trade. Oshie very physical puck hound. Stl could end up with nothing from this trade. Imagine raymond would need to show that he is back to form.

schneider + tanev to anywhere for a blue chip defenseman, like an adam larsson or something. How do we swing this?!

Dallas has no need for Schneider, especially with the way Lehtonen has been playing, and because they have Campbell in their prospect pool.

This. Even if they did gave a need for Schneider, why on earth would the Canucks do that? Also puts us way over the cap.

How about giving Steve Bernier another chance? At least he had score more than 10 goals in a season before, unlike Volpatti

IIRC Bernier turned down an invitation to this season's camp.

Volpatti unlike Bernier can actually arrive in time to deliver a hit and is not adverse to dropping the gloves.

GMMG dodged a bullet on that one.

Bringing in Weber

Would Hodgson/Raymond/Alberts be enough to land Weber from Nashville at the trade deadline?

Not even close. I don't think the Canucks really have the horses to make a trade for Weber unless it's something like Edler + 1st + Schroeder.

Think more along the lines of that plus 3 first rounders + jensen + edler. And that's lowballing them.

If Poile is on crack.

I don't know if it necessarily would cost Edler as it's very rare to see superstar being traded for superstar. I could; however, see Hodgson/Tanev/Ballard and a 1st round pick as being enough.

I don't think Edler is a superstar, but he's close. Still, I think Edler + 1st/Schroeder (or something like that) would be the cost to make that kind of leap from a Top 10-15 defender to a Top 5 defender.

Nashville will want pieces that can help them now if they can get them.

If you could hold open Edler's eyes and make him watch that video that Mr. Burns showed the Simpsons' dog to make him a guard dog, he would turn into a superstar.

In terms of value I agree with you. But how often do we see elite players being traded for what they are worth?

Most top players don't get traded because their team is looking for the ideal return. They usually get traded because it has to happen. Then they are usually looking for a decent roster player, and good young player who has impact potential, your top prospect and your 1st round pick.

I would think something like:

Ballard, Hodgson, Jensen/Rodin/Schroeder, 1st.

Maybe Ballard turns into Edler and then I don't know if it would be worth it for us. A more desperate team could probably top that package anyways.

At this point I'd rather see Edler leave instead of Hodgson. If you told me that last year though I would have said you were crazy.

I think a package based around Edler would have them seriously considering it. Edler likely won't make anything resembling Weber's money but he is a young and very solid top pairing defenseman. I believe that Edler will be a better "value" to a team on a very limited budget. Thats not to say that Edler would be enough on his own, it would probably take another significant asset or two to solidify a deal.

We couldn't get Weber for that package. Honestly, unless we put some significant assets in (starting with Edler and probably our first) I do not think we could match packages put forth from other teams.

An offersheet for Weber in the offseason will cost the Canucks a 1st, 2nd and a third if they give him 6.25 a season. They could offer two firsts at the deadline and I think it gets done.

Since when is Weber a superstar? He's a great defenseman, but you don't sell tickets with great defensive play. I think he's highly overrated in this forum. That said, Nashville would not take a trade package consisting of our unwanted table scraps for Weber either.
