Why is AK not being used on the PP??

AK is currently our third best player in points for this season so far.

I noticed that the last 2 games he had almost 0 PP time...

I just want to see what you guys think about this... and is it because last game we did alot of penalties and we were on the PK for quite some time, or is it because JM is just purely an AK hater no matter how good he plays?

The four wingers who are averaging more PP time on ice than AKost are Gionta, Pacioretty, Cammalleri and Cole. Despite what some people say, he's averaging more PP time on ice than Darche.

Even though I'm sure that some people think this is evidence of JM hating on AKost, it's pretty obvious that he's temporarily caught in a numbers game and is one injury or stretch of PP inefficiency away from getting more time on one of the top units.

There's a clear problem with only looking at PP/TOI over the last two games. Most notably that last night the Habs had two powerplays and they overlapped. Not a lot of minutes were available to go around.

We can't start complaining about all these things cause we will neve stop, for example why wasn't our best forward so far Pacioretty not on the pp last night on that 5 on 3 for a minute? There are a lot of things we can question but hopefully the coaching staff will make the adjustments. Still have plenty of hockey left

Because we don't need to watch him skate the puck around the net then up to the blue line and then not pass it?

Indeed, A.Kost hasnt been used on the PP in the last 2 games.. Hopefully next time he sees PP action he gets the opportunity to do more.. A.Kost has rarely been effective on the PP IMO, he needs to be more confident out there, his passes have to be more accurate, too many times its intercepted or he just lose the puck too easily when pressured hard.. The guy has been great lately at even strength, like I said its just a matter of showing more on the PP next time he gets that chance..

How can he be more productive & effective than Darche? The bar is set so high.

He's not exactly the most creative, imaginative player out there. Maybe that's why I don't know.

I'd tend to agree with that. I would at least give Eller a chance to take Darche's spot... I'm sure he can stand in front of the net too.

AKost has played more time on the PP than Darche has this season and both have produced 0 points with the man advantage.

When you have a guy like Darche and his 3 career PP goals, it's hard to make room.

This needs to be quoted apparently. Hopefully by doing so I'll increase the chances of it being read. Hopefully this in turn leads to fewer comments in the "cuz JM loves Darche and hates AK" genre.

AK may be the3rd best scorer on the team but he's easily the dumbest player on the roster with a hockey IQ of a peanut.

He's incredibly talented and a natural goal scorer, if he had the hockey sense to go with it, he'd easily be a top 10 player in the NHL. Alas, he's not and he's never going to be. He is what he is.

To answer your question, you need quick thinking on a PP and I for one don't think he's capable of it. If you put him in, it would be as a trigger man but with Cammy there, AK becomes redundant IMO. Can he score on the PP, yes but there are still better options. I'd take:
Cammy
MaxPac
Gio
Pleks
Cole
Eller
Gomez all before AK.

But he does love Darche and hate AK. This is highly regarded fact due to Georges Laraque

While darche and cole are not pp specialists, they do plant themselves infront of the net providing a big body in the crease. Its obvious that martin is stretching himself to find more presence infront of the net. That could be one way that akost can find himself with more pp time, because he certainly has the frame to do it, and he has alot more skill than cole and certainly darche.

They also seem to like using Kostitsyn-Eller-Moen right after the power play, which is a good move as their a great line to retain offensive pressure after the man advantage. Having forward depth brings a lot of advantages.

AK does go in front of the net on the PP and he has been very effective there.

He has better hands than both Cole and Darche, so on a 5 on 3, he should be in front of the net waiting for a pass from Plekanec or DD to tap in a goal like he has done many times.

As mush as I like AK, i think the problem is with the first unit of our PP ( Darche - Cammy - Gio ), there is no passer with that line, cammy is so terrible in passing, same for gio, and we all know why darche is on the PP. Eller would be a good fit on the PP to provide that passing ability, id like to see AK - Eller - Cammy as one of the Units.

Please stop the suggestions that AK is dumb. Is it because his English is poor? Maybe he's read Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Anyway enough "nyet" on Andre, his hockey is good: more shot on the net, keep going to the net, put the puck in the net, the point is, more shots on the net. AK !!

I don't mind AK not having lot of PP time because he is indeed not the most creative player out there but if its Darche that takes his place, now that's a different story.

On the PP, you put your players that has the best shot.. and AK is probably our best shooter with Cammy. Give AK that second to shoot, he will probably score. I never like using him in front of the net because he was never good at it. The guy has a wicked shot, why not let him use it.

When his timing is good, his one-timer is quite lethal too. I can't wait for Markov to come back so we can those cross-ice pass, something none of our point guy can do.

Of course Kostitsyn needs to play on the PP instead of Darche. It's a no brainer.

Nonsense. Darche has 3 PP goals and 9 PP points in his entire career. Way more effective based on research.

Because Martin who has been involved in hockey the past 40 years or so, who sees these guys everyday in practices, games etc. has decided this is what he wants to do to win games. For any of you armchair quarterbacks who whine about who he plays on the powerplay, give it a rest, he knows more about hockey than most of you will ever know in 3 lifetimes.
