Plante is a bust... Tired of wasting opportunity on this kid. Why not give Teubert his first look at the big leagues?

You're saying this about a guy that was called up to replace Sutton?

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking.

They also don't really have too many options. In OKC, I think that Teubert, Plante, and motin are the only d-men signed to 2-way deals.

I know that Helmer and montgomery are AHL only, and I'm pretty sure that the same applies to Lowery and Tulupov.

I hear that if the Blues try to dump Chorney to the minors, the Oilers have some kind of right of refusal and can take him back. That would be better than Big Alex.

Yeah, but Sutton at least can put fear into the opponents, and lay out monster hits.

Plante can't do that. He just gives up breakaways.

Says who? Plante has about a million PIM in the AHL.

Plante is going to be a great AHLer and that is it. Wasted pick, not even a project.

Do we really need more stupid penalties?

If this was about stapling someone to the PB why not Motin a guy that has very little use in the AHL or NHL?

Pretty sure the team wants to see if Plante can bring some of that physical play to the NHL that he has been doing in the AHL.

We sure as hell need toughness. We have none in the lineup. Guys are free to take runs at our young guns all game long right now.

Plante sucks at fighting though. He needs to keep his mitts on, would rather see Peckham or Eager take care of business.

Yup, it's not like they anticipate him playing any games. It's better to have Plante up here than Teubert, it'll also give our coaching staff in OKC a chance to evaluate Teubert without Petry and Plante down there, kid should be getting some huge minutes with them up with the Oilers.

I can't see him being any worse than Sutton at fighting. Not like Teubert is any better either. We just need physical play at this point and it doesn't need to include fighting.

Agreed but from reading the AHL thread ODH always seems to mention Teubert being a lot more physical when it comes to in-game stuff. The majority of Plante's PIM seem to be from tripping, hooking, holding. Obstruction calls which I don't see how that shows any toughness.

I guess it doesn't matter since Plante will be the 7th guy.

I can't believe Sutton is going to get 5+ games for that hit. He definitely deserves something because it was a head shot but I don't think there was any intent to injure.

He had 13 fights last year. Teubert had 5.

I remember getting labeled as the Plante hater when I was a season ticket holder of the Hitmen and said it was a terrible pick.

He won't play unless there is another injury or illness. You need to have 7 d on the active roster. No big deal.

Potter-Petry
Gilbert-Barker
Peckham-Smid

Plante

Strange move. I think the Oilers are trying to salvage something out of a terrible 1st round pick. They should have picked Cherapanov at the time and though he's passed away, it would have been a reasonable gamble rather than Plante. I thought he was the worst pick possible at that time and the radio people were shaking their heads at the pick

This is a the last stage to save some embarrassment for the organization by feigning that he can actually contribute.

Either that or they are winning too much and need some loses to get into the top 5 draft picks for next year.

Some Defensemen just take awhile to develop... Gotta love HF though, Potter is seen as this unreal pickup while toiling in the minors for years while Plante is a bust because he isn't an NHL regular at the age of 23.

I thought Plante looked fine out there tonight. He is still young for an NHL defenseman. Hopefully, he's turning the corner and becoming more confident at this level.

I've never thought plante was ever out to lunch with his limited opportunities on callups...now, I won't suggest he's going to be an NHL player anytime soon, because he still has a lot of things to work on (including his footspeed, which has always been a huge knock on him) but I don't believe he deserves the heat he gets sometimes.

Guys like Motin or Kyntar fit more into the category of "disappointments" than plante does.
