Desjardins in net for his first game with the Monsters.
They're playing the Toronto Marlies once again.

Monsters take the 1-0 lead. Brophey scores from Stoa and Chouinard
2-0 on a PP goal by Stefan Elliott

Cedric looked great in net, and the whole team played well, fought for loose pucks, hit, skated. Even Stoa. His best game of the season, by far.

Hows Elliott and Barrie been this season so far?

They haven't stood out much. They each need at least a full year in the AHL before even thinking about bringing them up. Gaunce has gone backwards this year, and a lot of that is due to the yo-yo effect of last season. That's what killed Stoa's career, calling him up WAY too early. He has never recovered from that, and Gaunce is possibly heading down that road. IMO, of course.

I'm fairly certain that other factors have led to Ryan Stoa not being an NHL player.

I'm sure that's true, he's likely not implying a premature callup was the only reason or even the primary reason behind Stoa's pro career stalling, but I don't want to speak for him.

Not encouraging news on Gaunce, but if he's meant to be a pro he'll bounce back.

Three straight losses after that win, two of them shutouts. The Monsters have now been shut out FIVE TIMES already this season.

Injuries or not, how is it possible they're this bad offensively?

I think injuries to guys like Yip, Hishon, Rismiller, the fact that Porter is still up on the Avs...that's a lot of (AHL) offense that LEM is missing.

Right, but even with injuries...FIVE shutouts!? That's unheard of.

Apparently according to our resident (though I haven't seen her in a while) prospect expert Jori, their power play has been abysmal as you might expect.

I suppose along with the injuries on the front end are a number of rookies trying to fit in on the back end. Hopefully they get it going soon.

No wonder the Monsters have been bad. The goal scoring leader has three goals. THREE!! That would be Van Der Gulik who has played 9 games with 9 points. After him there's Elliot with 7 points in 14 games as the 2nd highest scorer. Elliot has a neutral +/- while Barrie is -7. Stoa and Liffiton are both -8. Just looking at the stats here is actually kind of painful.

Stoa leads the team in shots and has no goals (34 shots). That's never a fun sign. He must be pressing.

Jeez, that's one of those records you don't really want. Like most games played in AHL history.

It's too bad LEM couldn't have Hishon to start the season. I'm willing to bet he would have made a huge impact on thier team offensively and their PP would be much better.

Too bad Darren Haydar whined his way off the team. It could've been him!

No doubt Hishon and Olver would be HUGE assets for the team right now. Can't help but think Holos would be as well, given how green our blueline is.

Seriously I think a veteran career AHL player and scorer like Haydar or Willsie would help the team a lot.

Both players were positively disastrous pickups for the LEM, so they might be a bit wary of doing it again. I wouldn't mind us trying to get Chris Durno back though, not sure where he's at these days. Frankly he was a decent callup as well.

They did sign Rissmiller, who is a AHL star type player. But he, like Olver and Hishon is injured. Once they return, I think LEM will get a good boost of skill.

Mauldin and van der Gulik seem to be turning into the type of players that can lead teams in the AHL.

And unlike AHL superstars like Locke, Haydar, Krog, etc., Mauldin an DvG can actually be serviceable NHL callups.

Monsters with a 4-1 win tonight.

Brophy with the hattrick, Stoa scored the other goal, Barrie had an assist, and Desjardins had 27 saves.

Desjardins is now 3-2 with a 1.41 GAA and .953 SV%
